Poehere, now that you have introduced me to Dream Island, nothing else will do. I could rob a bank, but I don't think any of the banks have money here. I'll have to think of another plan which is more realistic-winning the lottery.

So, how does Dream Island compare to Raimiti or Kia Ora Sauvage? Both in experience and in price?

When we are able to return again to FP we are looking to head outside the windward islands for part or all of the trip. We'd planned on 2010, but with Curtis being laid off and out of work for about 6 months, finally finding a job, but not much above unemployment, it may be a few more years off, but dreaming is always foremost.

spotbeagle, Dream Island is $3000/night/per person US! When hubby & I were at Raimiti, we paid about $2000 total (Canadian, so less US) for the week!

No it's not per person, it's per night for the whole place. But there is an additional daily charge of $200 per person. It'll hold up to 6 adults and 4 kids. So it's not really THAT bad ewhen you can split the cost between 3 couples. Pretty comparable to staying at one of the 5 stars on BB.

And that's just basicallty the rack rate. Some on TA went there earlier this year and said they paid much less...still a whole bunch...but much less than the standard quoted rate.

Oh, good. $3000/night/person seemed pretty high (but you never know in FP)!

Old wife-do you think that you could do 15 days at Ramiti? We've been talking about doing a different trip this year at Christmas, but I do not want to move around. I like to stay put. I'm not sure that I can give up Huahine. At this point, I'm still thinking Huahine 99%.

I read a trip report earlier this year on TA from a guy who had stayed at Raimiti for 17 days. And when we were there last year, Maluha was telling us about this couple who had stayed a whole month.

Personally I think I could stay 2 weeks there. I don't know about any longer, basically because Ive never had a vacation any where for longer than 2 weeks....so I have no idea how I'd do on one that long. But I'd certainly be willing to try! :-)

It's funny you ask that (could we stay 15 days at Raimiti). Hubby & I were just saying that a week there would be perfect (we spent 7 days/6 nights there) but we're not sure about longer (for us). However, we could easily spend a month on Huahine (and hope to in the future)!

I think the problem with staying at Raimiti for any longer than a week is...you would have to seriously want to be away from civilazation to enjoy it. Other than the people who work there (or staying there), you will have no outside contact at all. So if part of what you love about being in FP is intermingling with the local society...that ain't gonna happen at Raimiti. The food is great, the excursions are great, but you are quite literally trapped in an isolated location.
