Debating on the meal plan? I would like to have the option to go off site and experience local culture, but if it is going to take a while to go off property, not sure if it is worth it?

Are there any resturants close to the Sofitel worth going to?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thank you :)

Not really anything within easy walking distance. But most restaurants will come pick you up for dinner.

You may wish to purchase only the breakfast part of the meal plan. That way you are free to go elsewhere for dinner...or still eat at the hotel if you so desire. I'm pretty sure one of the local pizza places delivers to the Sofitel. If you rent a car for a day or two...then that will give you some freedom to eat elsewhere too.

Basically purchasing the meal plan will not save you money and it pretty much locks you into eating at the hotel...or losing the money you've already invested if you choose to eat elsewhere.

I would suggest you buy a travel book "Tahiti and French Polynesia Guide" by Jan Prince 5th ed avaliable at Amazon
This book will give you all of the information you need as to the restaurants location from the Sofitel.

I wouldn't get the meal plan. You can always eat at the hotel on an on-going basis. If you go off site with a meal plan, you forfeit the hotel meal. Not getting the meal plan preserves your flexibility in terms of what and where you eat.

I would just take the breakfast (these days most resorts offer breakfast for free when making a resa...!) because the buffet breakfast is somewhere around 3000 cfp. It is a good way to start the day.

The clubhouse (bar + rest) at the Moorea golf is sort of "right next door" to the sofitel, you could walk over during the day, other restaurants in the vicinity are Le Cocotier (good French cuisine) and Le Mahogany, nice menu and reasonably priced, they'll pick you up at night

I don't know if it's still the same. but when we stayed there they had a great breakfast buffet. They had everything that you could ever want and if they didn't have it , someone would cook it for you. We filled up on breakfast and then only needed a meal later on in the day as we were so fine from eating breakfast.

Me and my wife stayed here last month. I'd strongly recommend getting the breakfast plan, it was expensive to buy every day so if you can save yourself some money there I would go for it.

We were disappointed with the evening meals/buffets, so personally I'd say go out for your evening meals. Ask at the reception in the morning and they will book you a table and pickup for the local restaurants. If you ask for a 'Moorea Guide' this has all the restaurants on it, with opening times and if they offer pickup. :)

Try Te Honu Iti, Alfredo's and La Mahogony, all pick up from the sofitel free of charge. We had great meals there.

Try to ask directly for the addition of breakfast plan, both through your booking agent (if U used one) and directly with the hotel. Worked for us with the Pearl and the new owners of the Pearl chain are notoriously cheap when it comes to freebies.

Oh, yeah. And skip Alfredos.

My husband and I rented bikes from Sofitel hotel and went to the restaurant in late afternoon time. You can rent the bikes at the same place that you rent all the beach stuff (snorkels, fins etc..) It was not that expensive, maybe 20$. We were so full from their breakfast buffet..then we only got hungry around 3pm or so.. Biked to the restaurants nearby, ate and we were full all night. (meals are so huge there). Having some fruits and nuts in the room in case you happen to be hungry again is easy since you will hit stores on the way biking. It was great! We loved the Sofitel. We rented a car one day and visited all the other hotels and the hotels were more cramped. All the rooms were closer together. Sofitel is so huge and airy feeling. One side is gorgeous mountain and the other side you see Tahiti in the distance. We would wake up early and watch the sun rise over Tahiti. One of our great memories of Moorea.

Lots of good stuff right there : Grace, AOC, Hatfield's, Pastis.

Grace/Hatfield's are about a mile and a half. I guess it depends on the person.
