I decided to rent a car for 3 days in Moorea. I figured we will do some active things first, in Moorea, and then going to relax the rest of the way in Bora Bora. So, what are the places that people recommend we must visit while in Moorea? Can-not miss places? Hidden gems? Local/cultural places (far from the tourist traps)? Please give me advise... Any great local food/restaurants that otherwise would be "difficult" to get to without car?
Also, my reservation (with Avis) says "Collision Damage Waiver" is mandatory and is included in the rates." Is it always the case in FP? So, I should not be hassled by an Avis rep to purchase an "additional" protection, right?

Don't miss the Belevedere, the Distillery (Fruit Factory), the waterfall at (I can't spell this without looking it up!) Afareaitu, the view of Tahiti when you're overlooking the Sofitel, and we just simply loved the drive around the island. Do take the insurance on your car there (even if you're covered at home). I wouldn't do this in most places, but I would in French Polynesia (it's just too much hassle if you get in an accident otherwise).

We really liked the Lagoonarium, if it still exists. A good intro to snorkeling if you have not done it.

I second Oldwife's recommendations. Just be careful with the samples at the distillery - they are potent! :-) It is fairly easy to drive completely around the island. About an hour or so, plus stops. Also, there are a lot of places to shop - we bought most of our souvenirs on Moorea. It made it more convienent to get to restaurants, as well. We felt it was well worth it to have a car on Moorea.

Go to Temae Beach......fabulous! "allo Pizza in Cook's Bay is an affordable small roadside venue that has wonderful pizza and steaks cooked in a wood burning oven. It is open at lunch so if you only have the car for 8 hours, you could catch it then rather than at dinner.
