Okay, I'm leaving my reservation alone for now. I just wish the bad IC reviews would stop coming in. Then again, we aren't paying $800/nt for our room like the most recent reviewer. I suppose I'd be a lot pickier at those rates! They need a new travel agent, lol! For what we're paying, I think we'd be happy with just about anything on Moorea.

The reviews are really hard to get a handle on sometimes. You have to realize you are dealing with people of all different kinds of travel experience, in all different levels of finacial status, all different kinds of expectations, demands, ages, and personalities. One persons nightmare hotel is another persons dream. There are people who weren't happy with their experience at the Bora Bora Four Seasons!!!...and yet there also are those who love staying at Club Bali Hai.
Many people try to equate how much they are spending to their of their experience. For $500 or $1000 or $1500 a night, people naturally expect a lot! Especially when those same prices will get you something absolutely amazing in most parts of the world. In FP it'll get a you a nice room...but not necessarily perfect...and okay to good service...but not the pampered, wait on you hand and foot, bend over backwards service that you receive in many parts of the world.
There are many places I stay...and totally love...that some people (in my own family!) I know would rather die than stay in a place like that. Does that make my opinion any less valid than theirs of that place? You have to read every review with a grain of salt. Try to anaylzie why they did or didn't like the place. Read between the lines. Try to get a feeling who the review is and what they were expecting.
It's always best to toss out the great ones and the bad ones, and focus on the stuff in the middle. That is usually a more acurate review.

Thanks Patti! I totally understand what you're saying. I think some people expectations are just way too high; whereas, we roll with the punches. I guess that's why we were perfectly happy with th IC last time we stayed there, but even back then some people did not like it. I think they sometimes compare it to the newer/nicer places on Bora and tend to feel dissapointed.

Try the 3 for 2 special at the Pearl. I think you might like being so close to a village, one drawback to the Hilton. Also, if you snorkel/scuba the critters on the reef at the Pearl are great, better than ANY diving in the Caribbean.

I'm also in need of opinion. Will be staying 5 nights in Moorea and debating on Pearl or Sofitel. Considering Pearl because of the price, and close to stores. But I'm also considering Sofitel because its somewhat secluded and I pretty much want to get away from it all (traveling alone), and the sunrise view of Tahiti. However, their price is what is making me hesitate. I'm looking at the beach bungalow for both places.
I've read snorkeling is good at both places, so that is a wash.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Ended up staying at the Pearl for 5 nights and it was awesome! Had planned to explore the island throughout my entire stay, but waking up the first morning to watch the sunrise on my beach bungalow patio made me scratch my entire plan and just relax at the hotel...and snorkeled out by the barrier reef.
The rest of the island can wait for future visits!

travelin_george: I would have selected the Pearl as well because of it's proximity to stores and other eating/shopping venues. So pleased to hear that you had a wonderful experience and that you'll be back to explore the lovely island of Moorea again. Mauruuru roa for returning to Tahiti Explorer to post. Best regards, vai

Great to see someone else has the same opinion as we do about the Pearl. Just curious george (get it?!?!?) how did you consider the attitude of the staff at the Pearl? That seems to be the single most contentious issue with the Pearl Moorea and can vary by whom is working, etc. Especially wondering since we have not been there since the new ownership, although we did not see aproblem on previous visits. But then, we do not like to be waited on continuously, prefer to more be left alone until we ask for something.

LOL...I get a lot of the curious george so I'm used to it. =)
I think the staff at the Pearl did a wonderful job. When I first approach some of the staff members for the first time, they do have a "deer in the headlight" look about them. Once the conversation gets going they seem a bit more relaxed and very helpful.
But overall, they were great. Just about everyone greeted me with a smile, very cheerful. One night I wanted to take a picture of the pool and it had started raining so I hid under the canopy of the snorkel/towel shack. A couple of employees brought food out to a bungalow and on the way back, they offered me their umbrella so I can make it back to my bungalow without getting wet. I declined and thank them for the offer...thinking that was very nice of them.
