I'm sick of looking at the spammer, so I am reporting off topic. My friend and neighbor's construction company-Builders and Laborers Commonwealth has been chosen to do an Extreme House Makeover in our area. They start Aug 3 and it will be broadcast sometime in Oct or Nov. They are very great builders. Very sophisticated work, so I think it will be exciting to see what they come up with. They have to build a 3000 square foot house in 5 days. They work 24 hours a day until it's done. They live in some kind of semi trailer that's supplied by the network. I know all of the labor is donated. I'm not sure of all of the materials. Hope people aren't too ticked off about this off topic. Poehere can delete-no?

That may be off topic, but it's a heck of a lot more interesting than the spammers crap!
Anyway..how cool for them.

It is fun watching the show, but I worry about the people having to pay the taxes and utilities on the huge houses that are built for them... for some it was hard before, just because the house is beautiful doesn't make it easier to maintain. I have read stories about the homeowners having to sell after 4-5 years, because they can't keep up.
The great part of this is that your neighbour's company gets lots of advertising and face time in the show, which should help his business down the road. My husband donates wood floors here in the Toronto area to the Holmes on Holmes renovation show, and it has done wonders for advertising his products.

The show wanted to make the house 3500 sq feet but they told them trying to heat a house of that size in this climate is ridiculous for people who are already struggling. I think 3000 is still too big. I had heard that, too, now, that people lost their homes because they couldn't afford them. Builders is going to have some solar and geo thermal, I think, but I'm not sure. Tambir, I only have wood floors in my house, except for my one daughter's room. She was a rebel and wanted wall-to-wall carpeting. Now that she has her own home, it's only wood floors. No wall-to-wall carpeting at all.

Sorry for delayed post on this thread but it was around the time of the twins arrival. My fraternity, Kappa Sig, at Cal State Univ. Long Beach, was picked to have a house makeover on their show called "Monster House" back in 2004. So Discovery Channel pumped around $100,000 into our chapter house and remodeled it based on an Italian/Greek theme to align it with our fraternity history. The remodel was great but the upkeep and maintenance is costly. I sort of wish our chapter did not participate in this makeover because now our chapter house is so out of character that only another fraternity would probably buy it if it ever went up for sale.
