We have just returned from our honeymoon. 3 days at the pearl in moorea, 3 days pearl Bora Bora, 7 days New Zealand. Why in the Hell did we come back!! Just a few comments about the pearl on Bora Bora. I was not particularly impressed. We found the rooms (we had a premium overwater) to be older and not kept in the best condition. The whole hotel seemed to be in need of an extensive overhaul/restoration. The pool was open, but the water was about a foot lower than it was supposed to be. We did not eat at the resort but were told on four occasions by seperate couples the the food was "horrible"
Of course none of these things mattered, as we had the best time of our lives--just thought these comments might aid if anyone is making hotel decisions.
We did stay at the pearl in Moorea. It was INCREDIBLE-THE BEST. Service, rooms, view, everything was great.
Feel free to post any replies, as I will try and answer any questions

Which room did you stay in at the PB Moorea? And how was the food there? Would you recommend a meal plan?

We stayed in #404 which was classified as a regular otw. It was beautiful. We had great views of the sunset and the coral underneath our bungalow was beautiful and teaming with fish. About a foot and a half off our balcony the depth dropped to about 20 feet. I I acutually could dive from the top of the balcony railing into the water.
We ate very few meals at the hotel, but the food was great. Everyone we met said the same. We went to the supermarket nearby and got wine, breads, cheeses, ect...
The atmosphere was definitely low key. The staff was great. It was just what we needed.

We too stayed in the PB and we thought that it was really an absolute scandle on how they can rate themselves as a five star hotel. The rooms were dirty, poorly maintained, as were the grounds. The pools was low as well, and only upon leaving did we find out that they had water problems, but they should haver told you when you checked in. We were warned about a scam that thet=y try on may people, trying to charge them for an extra breakfast....and yes they tried it on us as well as some frineds that we made there in the hotel. Rooms were poorly mainted and cleaned and hotel management is a disaster. I am currently in battle with them as I did not appreciate the service along with a long list of issues we encountered. However, I got back a very childish reply denying things....the only thing is that I have the whole lot on video...sad people. here are many great hotels and The Meridien, Sheraton or Intercontinental were all great.....we spent days looking for alternatives for our next visit.

Is there any way you can post your video somewhere so we can all view it? We were thinking of staying there but this is very alarming!! Thanks for the info!

I'll try to get the video posted in the next few days. The only thing is thatI travel a lot so getting the time to convert it to a media that can be opened by all is difficult. I will try to place photos on the web soon so you can at least get an idea.

Stayed in pool suite in Bora Bora two years ago and loved it. So much so that we are staying in a poole suite in Moorea beginning next week. Reasons for pool suite:
Air conditioning--the OWB in Moorea don't have it--I don't know about Bora Bora. We didn't need the air conditioning in our garden setting with palm trees everywhere during daytime, but very much enjoyed it for sleeping. The OWB's are in the fierce equatorial sunlight all day.
OWB have absolutely no privacy for deck area. The pool suites are surrounded by privacy fence, tropical foliage and they also have a large outdoor sitting area with thatched roof, pillows, ceiling fan and dining table. So private that sunbathing is suit-optional.
Pool suites also have much more area to move about with the private garden.
AND..........did I mention the plunge pool? OOOOOOOOO. it was so nice. Not large enough to swim laps, but the water flows over rocks in a shallow end to a chest deep area for "plunging" to cool off. The garden suites have a hot tub. Who wants a hot tub in tropical temperatures? We enjoy those when we are in the snow covered mountains.
Anyway, we so much enjoyed the Bora Bora Pearl Beach that I wouldn't even consider any other resort for next week's trip to Moorea.
