For those interested in coming (individually) to FP in July 2010 for the total eclipse (4 min) please know that plane seats are limited and accommodations on the outer atolls (Hao, Anaa, Hikueru, Tatakoto) are VERY limited, so time to get the a** in gear as they're expecting some 1500 tourists just for that...

I wanted to do this trip but looks like I'll have to forget about it for now since there are more pressing matters at home with the twins.

Poehere,
Do you have any info on how to get to any of those outer atolls? I think Anaa has an airstrip? Or is it Hoa? I'd like to try to get there for the day of the eclipse from any place in the Tuomotus. I may be in Rangiroa or Fakarava, not sure yet.

watch out for those clouds! But it will be fabulous even if it is cloudy watching everything go totally dark. I have seen a few of these eclipses and the sight of the moon's shadow racing towards you at a couple of thousand miles an hour is unbelievable!

Another thing is the very perceptible drop in temperature like somebody just turned off that huge thermonuclear furnace in the sky for a few minutes!

Hello! Does anyone have any advice about Anaa accommodations during the eclipse (July 8-12)? Three of us have airline tickets but have not been able to arrange accommodations, despite trying for months. We're willing to stay in a private home, or camp (self-sufficiently). We would be very grateful for any suggestions you might be able to offer.

Kia Ora Wanderwoman !

I MAY be able to help you with private lodging at someone's house, so I would need your email and if you don't mind I would want you to send me a scan/copy of your Air Tahiti resa (just to avoid for me taking the trouble and expense of calling around for nothing, if you get my meaning...)

Anaa has hardly any infra-structure at all! Hao (larger and better equipped atoll) has organised a big camping ground for the eclipse chasers...

Poehere~ You might want to check with her on Trip Advisor. She posted over there too. It's easier to use the PM on that site.

Hi, Poehere. My e-mail address is carr_barbara@hotmail.com. (Tried to send you a private message but got this error: "You can only include 0 in a private topic." I would be glad to forward the Air Tahiti confirmation details and ticket numbers to your e-mail address.

We grabbed the Anaa tickets when we saw them available, but Hao might have been the better choice; all the Hao flights are now full (and may have been earlier, when we booked Anaa.) We will very much appreciate any guidance you can offer. One member of our little group is also exploring accommodation possibilities with a UK-based tour company, but we do not know if they have anything available. Thank you again for trying to help us.

Barbara....just a heads up...the PM on this site doesn't work. Hopefully Poehere will be able to do something for you. Good luck.
