This appears to be a relatively new resort, and the pictures on the Pearl Beach site, although limited, look rather nice.

I was wondering if anyone has stayed here or knows anything about it, as the rates are very low for Bora Bora.

Its a very small resort and has about 9 bungalows. No OW just a few beach and garden bungalows. It has a pool and a small restaurant. Its on the same motu as the Le Meridien and the beach is very nice. Not sure how the snorkeling is. Its a good place to get a way from it all and not be exposed to the big Mega resorts. No Tv's, very relaxing and a great view of Bora Bora. Its not a bad place if that what you are looking for. Just remember you will need to take the shuttle onto the main island.

I believe too that the shuttle to the main island is not free.

We stayed at Eden Beach in October and it was perfect for us. I posted some info on this topic after we returned if you want to do a search or scroll down on this topic. They provide free transfers to the main island three times a day and you can arrange other times for about $10 per person (for example to come back after a dinner). Some of the restaurants will pick you up at the transfer staion on the main island for dinner and you can arrange any excursions you want from there also. We rented bikes and rode around the island in a few hours. It is a small, comfortable, quiet, friendly place with incredible views of the mountain. It is new, clean, and the food is good and reasonably priced for Tahiti standards. It is not a fancy resort with all the amenities (shops, mini-bars, etc.) but they were happy to provide ice, hot water, etc. whenever we wanted. There are kayaks available (free) which we used to go snorkeling at the Coral Gardens and to the end of the motu (and avoided the big snorkeling groups). We were glad to be able to enjoy Bora Bora away from the crowds but with easy access for anything we wanted to do.

Could you please tell me where they transfer you to on the main island? If I recall, Eden Beach and Le Meridien are on the same Motu on the East side of the island, and the main town on BB is on the West side.

I remember reading that if you wanted to go into BB main island fequently, Le Meridien was not a good choice. I'm assuming you have to then get a cab from where they drop you off to get to the other side of the island?

Would a resort such as Pearl Beach or Bora Bora Lagoon on the West side of the island be more convenient?

If you want to spend a lot of time on the main island doing things it would be more convenient to stay on the west side of the island. We spent two days there (on the main island) out of our five nights on Bora Bora. We rode bikes the circle road around the island one day in about 3 hours with stops for lunch and shopping) and walked and hiked one day all the way around (hiking over passes at each end). We mostly wanted to spend our time on the motu snorkeling and kayaking and relaxing. The shuttle drops you off at the same transfer station as Le Meridian where you can rent cars or bikes or scooters (I don't remember seeing any taxis). The restaurants that pick up for dinner will pick you up there as will the excursion people. It just depends on what you want to do while you're there and how close you want to be to the activity.

I have the opportunity to stay at Eden beach in early April. Does it offer air-conditioning at all? I was dismayed to hear in another post that there are no refrigerators in rooms either. This sounds like my kind of resort (small, no TV, quiet), but I am concerned about comfortable sleeping, heat and bugs. Were ceiling fans enough to keep you comfortable? Were mosquitoes a problem? And how as swimming?

Thanks -

MATT

We were there in late October which is the end of the dry season heading into the wet season so it was beginning to get hot when we were there. The fans in the room worked very well (and there were screen on the windows) but there isn't any air conditioning if that's what you're looking for. There is also a really great breeze on the ocean side which is only a short walk (and there are a few bungalows on that side but you'd miss the great view of Bora Bora). We don't remember any mosquitos there (but it was October). We spent some time in the pool in the afternoon around tea time (they served tea and snacks at 4 PM) and a lot of time on our deck looking at the mountain. The lagoon is too shallow to swim near Eden Beach but you can take the kayaks a short distance to swimming or snorkeling. They were happy to provide us with ice whenever we asked (for our sunset drinks we bring rum and buy boxes of juice at the grocery) or pots of hot water (for tea inthe AM or our instant soups for dinner). The electricity in the rooms is low voltage which can be used for recharging camera batteries (with a converter they provide) but not for hair driers or immersible water heaters. We're planning on going back sometime in the next couple years. I guess the main thing for us was that we had avoided Bora Bora in the past because we were afraid it would be too crowded and commercial and we didn't feel that way about it at all staying at Eden Beach. But it's not the kind of place for someone who wants to be in the middle of the activity.

Thanks for the info - if there are screens in the windows and fans, I think that would be fine. I am trying to determine from the hotel the difference between a beach bungalow and a lagoon view. I think given what you've said that the beach bungalows face the open ocean while the lagoon view face the main island. Can anyone confirm this? How wide is this motu?
