The local group SA Pacific Beachcomber (owner of the Tahiti and Moorea beachcombers, Thalasso BB and LeMoana BB as well as developer of the new Brando at Tetiaroa) has acquired the cruise ship MS Paul Gauguin which is also one of the biggest clients of ATN (12,000 p/y) it was announced by Dick Bailey today

Bora Bora Cruises
TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.
Check our Cruises page for more information

So is this a good thing? Think things will be run any differently with local owners?

For sure a good way to help fill up "his" hotels huh -I'll bet they'll be able to negotiate super rates for packages other than just the cruises with ATN too... anything to keep the blue bird flying high LOL very strategic move indeed!

We're going on the PG in October while it's still run by Regent.

This is actually great news. This will keep the PG in Tahiti which is very much needed. If the PG would have been sold to another company they would have taken her out of FP waters. A great move for Dick

Really? Where would a ship designed to cruise in FP go outside of FP waters? The PG was specifically built to negotiate the passes to get herself into the lagoons. Glad she's staying in FP...most cruise ships have left FP, other than seasonal offerings or ports included in trans-pac voyages.

The Aranui 3 is a working cargo ship with a limited number of passenger cabins rather than a cruise ship.
We hope to experience the Aranui someday....have heard really good things about it.
