I have never been to French Pol. I have read lots of messages regarding the LM. Could any one please tell if Sept is a good time to go? Not too hot? Is there anything to do besides snorkeling at the LM? We are possibly staying in a OWB. I've read that those do not have AC. Is AC necsesary that time of year (sept.) or are we better off staying in a beach bungalow? What is the flying time from LAX?
Any and all replies are greatly appriciated! Please tell me any all info you might have. Thanks for your help!

We were at LM BB in Sept 2002 for six nights in a non-premium OWB. You'll have to get out your crystal ball to predict the weather for 2003 but we had lovely weather. It rained briefly at night a couple times, temps in the high 70s to low 80s and sunny in the day. There was a pleasant breeze throughout our stay and we had no need for A/C in our OWB. The only time I remember being hot was after our bike ride around the main island. I cooled off by jumping into the lagoon. The Beach Bungalows are nice if you desire A/C and are situated around the interior manmade lagoon for easy access to snorkeling with the turtles.
Things to do besides snorkeling: free kayaks, paddle boats and windsurf boards. Take a short stroll to the oceanside of the motu and watch the waves. Play billards or read in the sitting room. Play volleyball on the beach. Sit on your balcony or the beach and relax - we did that for hours at a time. Each day there was an arranged hotel activity, such as Crafts with the Tahitian Mamas. All of the other activities can be arranged through the hotel activities desk (shark feeding, 4x4, etc.).
The flight time from LAX to Papeete is ~8.5 hours. It's another ~45 minute flight to Bora Bora.
If you have any other questions, I would be more than happy to answer.

I would sure hope so! That's one of the best parts of French Polynesia! There was plenty of topless sunbathing in Tahiti, and the only people I saw having a problem with it were ignorant Americans (but I couldn't get my wife to do it either, maybe next time). We need to start doing some things the european way here in the uptight USA!!

All the men were topless.
There were women, both American and European, that were topless sunbathing and swimming. Certainly not frowned upon.
