I think FP is better enjoyed by staying four nights minimum per island. The less you travel, the more time you will get to enjoy your surroundings and the people you will meet. Hopefully you will do well at the pensions without air conditioning. See if there are ceiling fans or floor fans available for sometimes breezeless nights. Bora Bora is breathtaking; two nights is definitely not enough and neither is three.

Bora Bora is expensive. That being said, if you travel all that way, you need to see the lagoon to believe it. The Matira beach area is beautiful and has some reasonable lodging as stated previously. It really is a must see at least once.

I almost wept getting off the plane in Bora Bora, I had never beheld such beauty.

Though I'm not a fan of Bora Bora, I have to say that the lagoon is spectacular as is Matira Beach. You might have a look at some of Poehere's suggestions for accommodations as she lived on Bora Bora so is very familiar with the pluses and minuses of the places.

I'm one of those people who think you would have a wonderful time and a much cheaper trip if you skipped Bora Bora... Yes, it's beautiful, but it adds a lot of expense to your multi-island trip. Moorea and Huahine are just as beautiful, in my opinion, and I think you would have a more relaxing vacation without so much island-hopping.

About Moorea Fare Miti: We absolutely LOVE it there! It's a small pension located on the northwest side of Moorea, on a lovely long stretch of white sand beach. The bungalows are very basic, but airy and comfortable, with an equipped kitchen (small frig, 2-burner stove, pots & pans, dishes & glasses, etc.). There are a separate bedroom and two day beds in the living area (bathroom in between the two rooms), and a large veranda with a view of the lagoon (and killer sunsets), even from the garden bungalows. It's reasonably priced, the proprietors are wonderful, and it's within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. As with most pensions, there is no housekeeping service, room service, bathroom toiletries, or pool. However, we definitely prefer it, both ambience and location-wise, to either Les Tipaniers or Hibiscus Hotel. If you want more info, including photos, email me at BarbiJKM@aol.com and I'd be glad to send them! I also have the contact information for the condos where Cheryl's parents stayed, near Les Tipaniers, but those units are now a little pricier than Fare Miti, Hibiscus, or Les Tips, and the beach is filled with kite surfers because it's so windy there. If you want more traditional hotel amenities, Club Bali Hai is good too, but you won't find a sandy white beach and turquoise lagoon views there, because it's on a bay, but it has fantastic mountain views.

Cheryl, I am so glad you piped in! This discussion is very reminiscent of Bill & Ruthie's trip a few years ago! I'm going to go search for a link to that discussion too.

For your visit to Huahine, may I suggest Chez Guynette? I've stayed there twice. It is right in Fare, so people watching can't be beat. The rooms are comfortable, there is a shared kitchen, which is nice for meeting people. It is extremely clean. Also just a short stroll to a market and the water is close by. It is a little far (for Mom) from a place to swim, but I feel like it gives you a real taste of Huahine island life.
I've stayed at Pension Motu Iti, if you have a car it's fine, otherwise its pretty isolated. Barbi's Fare Miti is in a beautiful location.

Ditto Silvanocat, I always cry when I see Bora Bora coming into view from the air - those beautiful lagoon colours and the mountain are breathtaking!!
My comments (I'll only comment on my experiences).

Moorea--I think Pension Motu Iti is a very good choice for you and your Mom. Everything is close together (and you could even request a bungalow closest to the main building & restaurant to limit the distance she has to walk). The snorkelling (for you), kayaking, etc. is fantastic. One drawback to this place is far from everything by walking (other than Aito's next door), but since you will be taking a tour somewhere, that eliminates that problem.

Huahine:
I don't know Pension Fare Maeva, but I suspect she wouldn't enjoy Rande's Shack the way we did. The bungalows aren't right on the water so if she wants to sit by the water, it's a bit of a walk for someone who walks slowly. The walk down to the water is down a bit of a hill as well. And walking or biking into town would be impossible for her (Rande could arrange for someone to drive her for a fee, though...or you could rent a car). So if you can find something right in Fare, I think you/she would be happier.

And, by the way, I think 2 nights at any one place is a really bad idea (and especially bad for your Mom). Please reconsider and do a minimum of 3 nights per place (even if you have to delete an island or more...I'd get rid of Maupiti myself). We like to spend a minimum of 5 nights on each island in FP so we can settle in, explore, and not feel rushed.
Irs really a good advise, thanks for suggestion,,,
