OK we are looking to possibly return to FP in October, and we want to stay 2 or 3 nights in Tahiti, 4 or more in Bora Bora. We wish to stay in an overwater bungalow again with the following requirements: semi-private, hopefully on the outer reaches of the resort. Air conditioning TV in room (do any have a VCR?) Mini-fridge a plus spectacular view of lagoon and Mt Otemanu and of sunsets from OWB. nice deck chairs on OWB deck. beach is very important to us, and/or a sand bottomed pool. Maybe close access to a grocery store or local restaurants so we don't always have to eat at the resort.
Anything fit the bill? We really enjoyed the Beachcomber in Tahiti, not sure if the one in Bora Bora is the same experience.
Back any passionate recommendations with pictures if possible!

Submarine: My vote is the Sofitel Motu. It has in room tv but no vcr, it has ac, it is semi private (only 28 units)with on demand shuttle service to the main island (5 minute ride), it has a mini fridge, grocery store is 5 minute walk down the road on main island, several restaruants within walking distance and many have pick up service, it has nice deck/lounge chairs on one deck and the other deck has chairs and a table. As far as view the higher number bungalows have the best view of Otemanu as well as a sunset view. The other end has great sunrise view and you can walk up to the top of the Motu and have the best sunset/sunrise views around. All of them have a good view of the lagoon. Only Drawback is the beach. They do have one but it is small and or behind the OWB. Nor do they have a pool but you can use the Marara's pool but it does not have a sand bottom. However the snorkeling is fantastic especially with the Coral Gardens right around the corner. Sorry no pictures but there are probably some on this site somewhere. Bear in mind this is a biased post as that is where we stayed and we both feel that there is nowhere that could have been better maybe as good good but not better. Envious of you, been back a couple months and already wish we were going back.

Here is a link to my photos from our trip to the Sofitel Motu on BB.

We had OWB 129 at the far end of the dock, it had a sunrise and sunset view. If you want to see more pictures, just email me.

thanks for the help people. Love the pics and I'll email you for more. One caveat is that we joined the Intercontinental travel club thing last time we were there, so we are supposed to get upgraded to the next higher lodging (i.e., premium OWB if we get the lesser and so on) so that may influence our decision. We're pricing right now and for some reason they are all coming back twice what we paid last time. Maybe we just got a real good deal on that trip, I don't know.
Anyone here gone direct booking with air and hotel instead of packages?

I booked the Sofitel Motu through a travel company and I seemed to get a good deal. I did try to call the hotel direct and they showed all the rooms were booked. The company we went through had an OWB on consignment so we booked it through them. We had FF miles on United, so we didn't have to pay for our air. We paid $1779.38 per person for the first night at the Sofitel Maeva, interisland air from Tahiti to Bora Bora, 5 nights at the Motu in an OWB, and one night at the Maeva at the end of our trip.

OK something is going on here because all our quotes are coming back at ~$3600 PER PERSON which is what we paid last time for both of us at the Intercontinental Tahiti. I would rather be under 4K for the package total. Sheesh, for another grand pp you could do Turtle Island Fiji. I might have to consider the Cook Islands instead.

$3,600 per person thats too much. Shop around you can find cheaper, unless you are doing all OW's that price is pretty high

yes it's way to high. The better priced packages are starting to come through now. I think Bora Bora will happen after all.
