Since you prefer a kitchenette, assume you would like to be close to a village/supermarche. Or are you driving??
Also, any particular part of Moorea?

I am a huge fan of Moorea Fare Miti, and stay there several times a year! Email me for photos or more specific info: BarbiJKM@aol.com. They have also recently revised their webpage, so check it out: www.mooreafaremiti.com
You might also consider Haapiti Surf Lodge or Mark's Place to be closer to surfing, but I am not sure those places offer bungalows with equipped kitchen.
Les Tipaniers Iti and Linareva are both pretty isolated, and you might need a car, at least for a day, to get some groceries and supplies. Hibiscus and Fare Miti are within walking distance to grocery shops and restaurants, and are both on a nice white beach on the northwestern side of the island (with great sunsets).

shelby~ It also depends on how much French you speak...or how much you mind no English. In the write up on Fare Aute in Jan Prince's book, she says they speak no English. That may or may not be an issue for you.

Shelby,
Here is a link to my photo show of Moorea Fare Miti. The proprietor, Celine, speaks excellent English!
