Our agent suggested that we stay at a pool suite at Pearl Beach Bora Bora (instead of OWB) in order to meet our budget.
Any comments on location, amenities, bugs, views, privacy???

Do the beach suite. You get all the amenities of the pool suite(with a jacuzzi instead) and the views of the OWB. Nice comprimise. The indoor outdoor bathroom is just to much fun to pass up. Do an OWB on another island.

Stayed in pool suite in Bora Bora two years ago and loved it. So much so that we are staying in a poole suite in Moorea beginning next week.
Reasons for pool suite:
Air conditioning--the OWB in Moorea don't have it--I don't know about Bora Bora. We didn't need the air conditioning in our garden setting with palm trees everywhere during daytime, but very much enjoyed it for sleeping. The OWB's are in the fierce equatorial sunlight all day.
OWB have absolutely no privacy for deck area. The pool suites are surrounded by privacy fence, tropical foliage and they also have a large outdoor sitting area with thatched roof, pillows, ceiling fan and dining table. So private that sunbathing is suit-optional.
Pool suites also have much more area to move about with the private garden.
AND..........did I mention the plunge pool? OOOOOOOOO. it was so nice. Not large enough to swim laps, but the water flows over rocks in a shallow end to a chest deep area for "plunging" to cool off. The garden suites have a hot tub. Who wants a hot tub in tropical temperatures? We enjoy those when we are in the snow covered mountains.
Anyway, we so much enjoyed the Bora Bora Pearl Beach that I wouldn't even consider any other resort for next week's trip to Moorea. By the way, my travel agent told me that the Pearl Beach resorts are the only ones in the world with plunge pools.

Cassandra, tell your travel agent to check out Sandals St. Lucia Golf Resort. They have lovely plunge pools.

It's all relative to what you want. I'm doing premium OWB at PB in May 'cos I heard loads of 'bug' sagas on the beach / garden bungalows. Of course, there are those people who never get bitten but I'm not one of them. The jacuzzis would be refreshing though. (cold water); and private.

Cassandra, the 4 Seasons in Bali also have pool suites and I think the pool is quite a bit bigger than the Pearl Beach (from what I've seen in the PB photos). In any case we are also staying in a pool suite during our trip in July, although I have also read about mosquito problems on this board. Luckily I rarely get bitten, but there is nothing more annoying than the "niiiiiiii" noise when you are trying to get to sleep!!

Will be staying in Moorea beginning Thursday. Was wondering about insects there also. We were in Bora Bora in January 2000 and so no bugs (roaches, etc.in Pool suite) or no no's , no mosquitos either. No not one! But, since this board mentions insects so much, we are taking 98% deet to Moorea just in case.

I must be unlucky, because we stayed at the Pearl Beach last July and were eaten alive by mosquitoes and had lots of roaches in the beach bungalow. Maybe it was the time of year. Good luck.

Just got back from Moorea. No problem with bugs except on the jeep tour up in the mountain. None anywhere. By the way, this isn't the only misinformation I received from this board. The list is just too long to go into.
