Need Recommendation Hotel in Moorea!

Hi, I'm booking my first trip to FP for our upcoming honeymoon in the first week of May 2010. We're doing one night in Tahiti, 3 in Moorea and 5 at St Regis Bora Bora in an overwater bungalo (and Vegas on the way home for fun haha).
We're having a hard time deciding where to book for Moorea. Originally we were staying at the Intercontinental Moorea in a beach bungalo . . . But now we're reading about construction (not what I really want to deal with on our honeymoon. I'm reading mixed reviews of the Moorea Pearl and am still researching the Sofitel. We definitely plan to stay at a beach bungalo in Moorea since we're doing over water at St Regis. We would really appreciate some experienced advice on where is a nice, clean, updated, upscale hotel in Moorea. Thank you in advance!

The Pearl has the best location, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The Sofitel has the best white sand beach, facing Tahiti, but it's in a pretty isolated location. The Hilton has the best snorkeling, but is also not within walking distance of much.
It's a shame that the IC is going through renovations during your travel time. It's my favorite of the "big 4."
There are lots of reviews on this forum and on Trip Advisor of all of these resorts. What kind of amenities are you looking for?

If you're interested in a beach bungalow, you can cross the Hilton of your list since their beach bungalows are the worst of the group. The Hilton has good garden bungalows but I would avoid the beach bungalows - no privacy and no views. The sofitel has the best beach bungalows IMO.

Thanks so much! We are strongly considering Sofitel now, it sounds like our best option. Is it just me, or do these resort's websites seem like they don't want to show you much of the rooms and resort? I'm finding it's hard to get actual pictures of rooms or layouts to compare them and it's really frustrating!

There are many photos of the Sofitel Moorea at this link, beginning on page 25 (which has a photo of the map of the property) and going to page 28 of that photo album. This album was posted by a friend on Trip Advisor:

Hope this gives you more of an idea of the property!

The Sofitel is a lovely property. Just a bit out of the way for resto options unless you rent a car. Great beach though and recently rennovated.

Hi, I put up these pictures of our vacation at the Moorea Pearl in 2004: http://travel.webshots.com/album/183579356KarhES?vhost=travel
I thought the beach bungalows looked beautiful.

Maybe it's time to all chip in and take over the Club Med property. Great location and beutiful sunsets. The bungalows will probably need a little work though.

Right now you can reserve an OWB at the Pearl for about the same price as a beach bungalow at the others, using their stay 3 and pay for 2 special.

I just saw the Hilton garden bungalows that they are renovating. It looks like the decks will be much bigger, with a privacy wall across half of it and a plunge pool back behind the wall. I would personally book there just because I am a snorkeling fanatic and the snorkeling there cannot be beat. The lack of stores and restaurants near by can be a bit of a drag though.
