Woke up at 05:30 in the morning, after a very exciting day the day before at the Port Kembla Steelworks where I got to visit a very large ship - the Iron Yandi. This thing was huge! I was all excited about my first visit to Sydney. The weather was beautiful - forecast for 27 degrees C (83F), so I was expecting Moorea weather. Gary and Cath finally got out of bed and we went downstairs to wake up Nero and give her breakfast. Nero is a lovely German Shepherd and I have grown quite fond of her. In no time at all, Gary and Cath had showered and we were ready for the day. We jumped in the car to drive through the National Park and left the car at Waterfall train station. Hopped on the train and arrived at Circular Quay. Got a nice photo with a Dutch cruise ship and the Harbour Bridge in the background. What an amazing place Sydney Harbour is.

We then took a very nice walk around to the Opera House. I have never seen anything like this building, looks like a big bunch of sailing ships all parked together. We kept walking around the harbour through the Botanical Gardens until we could see both the Bridge and Opera House together. Another great view. We then headed back to Circular Quay and hopped back on the train to Waterfall.

We jumped back in the car and drove to Symbio Wildlife Park (Gary and Cath never mentioned this stop over so I had no idea what was in store for me). Here I saw kangaroos, a Tasmanian Devil, wallabies, a Wedge Tail Eagle, some very pretty multi coloured birds, and even some Red Pandas and Pygmy Marmosets.

Then I had the most amazing experience. I was introduced to the most beautiful creature I have ever seen, and very friendly and welcoming. Her name was Lara, a 2 year old female Koala. When the opportunity came up to meet Lara, I got very nervous, as Lara had never met anyone from FP before and couldn't speak French. When Lara saw me, she reached out to greet me with her hand. I didn't know what to do, so I just said Ia Orana. She then leaned over and kissed me! This is a greeting that I will never forget.

I couldn't stop talking about Lara all the way home, so Gary and Cath promised me a jacuzzi and a Pina Colada when we got home. We stopped at the new Wollongong Tourist Information Centre on top of the escarpment overlooking the city of Wollongong and the coastline - what a view! When we arrived back home, Gary made us all a very refreshing Pina Colada, which we sipped in their jacuzzi while listening to Tapuarii, Best of. What a refreshing way to end a very exciting day.

We all went to bed early that night and I slept like a log - starting to get a little home sick now (especially after the Pina Colada whilst listening to Tapuarii), but I am very excited about seeing New Zealand.

Started to pack my bags today in readiness for my trip to New Zealand tomorrow. I'll miss Gary and Cath but I'm sure we'll catch up again sometime in the future.

Great trip report Tereva!

Sounds like she had a great time with you Gary and Cath. She certainly is becoming a well traveled little girl, isn't she?

Thanks, Barbi for the response to my first trip report, but I have been very overwhelmed by my sightseeing all around the world and haven't had time to post a report until Gary & Cath insisted on it. All of my hosts have been extremely nice and I have been busy enjoying the world - and what a wonderful and diverse world it is. But the one thing in common that all of my hosts have - is my original home (everywhere I stayed at seemed like home) French Polynesia. Thank you all for hosting me and I look forward to catching up again when you all come back to my home.

Hoshiarpur is my town. I was born in Hoshiarpur. attended DAV HS school and then Govt. College. While visiting India, I don’t feel like going anywhere other than my Hoshiapur. Wonderful memories of the town itself and the villages around. Love it.
