Sofitel Motu advice

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon and first trip to FP for November 2010. I have been doing some research and I think I am settled on the Sofitel Motu. Nice OWB that doesn't kill the budget, good snorkeling, and a good view looking back "into" the island were my main criteria. The isolation also sounds very romantic and relaxing.
My question is, how does the food work? We don't need to eat in restaurants for every meal, but it seems like that is what you have to do if you want anything besides bread and cheese. Is getting to/from the motu going to be a big pain? Is going out to dinner at sunset and coming back in the dark a hassle? Are there many choices for food on the island where the Sofitel Motu shuttle drops off?
On the same line of thinking, how do activities work on the island (hikes, scuba or snorkel trips)? Are we going to be shuttling all over the place?
I guess my major concern is that we will get sick of having to take a shuttle all the time, and I don't want to feel "stuck" on the motu without much to explore. Would our situation be any different if we stay on the Le Meridien/St Regis/FS/IC Thalasso strip?
Thanks!

Hi RyanandAmy, welcome to the forum. Some friends of ours stayed at Sofitel Marara (mainland) for their honeymoon this year. They said the shuttle over to the motu is only a few minutes so not really much of a hassle.
There are restaurants etc on the mainland within walking distance from the Sofitel Marara and if you have organised water activities they usually pick you up in a boat at the hotel dock.
My personal opinion is that the Sofitel Motu is in a better position and offers a better shuttle service than the FS/St Regis etc.
Also, I believe there is also an Accor/Novotel card which you can purchase and you get free upgrades and buy one, get one free meals at Sofitel resorts (might be worth looking into).
Here is another link re the Sofitel Motu which may answer a few more of your questions :)
Just relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery that BB has to offer from your OWB.

The shuttle boat only takes 5 minutes between the motu and the main island and is pretty much on demand. Much easier, more frequant, and cheaper than the shuttles of the other hotels you mentioned. There are a few restaurants and a market within very easy walking distance of the shuttle drop. And many other restaurants will pick you up at the shuttle drop.

Ditto what everyone else has said. The shuttle is on-demand (which means if it isn't where you are, you just ask for it and they send it over to pick you up). I don't think it was ever on the side we were on. There's stale bread at the spots you wait so you can throw bits of bread at the fish and watch them all rush to it so waiting is actually entertaining! The shuttle goes back and forth in the dark no problem. And I don't think we shared the shuttle with other people once so it's kind of neat--you feel like you own the place.
There's a market a short walk to the left when you land on Bora Bora where you can buy all kinds of food. We'd go over either last thing at night to pick up something for breakfast or go over first thing in the morning to get chocolate waffles and juice. There are also several reasonably-priced restaurants in the area.
If you book an activity through the Sofitel Motu, they pick you up at their dock.
Personally, I think the Sofitel Motu is a real gem. The view of the island is incredible, the resort is very quiet, the overwater bungalows are wonderful, and the on-demand shuttle is very convenient.

Shuttle is no problem. Riding the boat is part of the Motu experience. I think it runs until 11 pm at night. Yes, the view of Mt. Otemanu is breathtaking, and arguably the best view.
