Shelbydc, - thank for the info. I thought I had found every pension imaginable on Huahine, but somehow missed that one...Very interesting. I googled it and found some pictures. The reviews are very good on TA. Make sure you report when you're back. I'll be very curious to hear what you have to say.

Shelbydc - do they have a website and/or email? I couldn't find anything on the net.

Holte,

Not to worry about the Bobby H. CD...not in a rush. For Au Motu Mahare, have you stayed there before? Sounds like you know the place...

No, I have never stayed there. It is on a coconut island plantation across from the old Sofitel on Huahine which we stayed at. We would take the free kayaks and kayak over there. We saw many rays on the way over there. It's not very far. We would also swim there on the coconut island before there was anything there but the coconuts. Very lovely.

Andie, the link that denverjoe gave is the one you should try. Kim and her husband own the motu and her e-mail is: motumahare@yahoo.com
Kim gets back with you right away for making plans. It's definately more rustic than the resorts but where else could you get an almost private motu for under $100(us) per nite?
My husband and I will be staying on moorea, bora bora, huahine, rangiroa and tahiti this trip and I must say that I am looking forward to my stay at Au Motu Mahare the most! It just opened a couple years ago and since it is so small I don't think it gets the publicity that the travel agency's usually give the bigger places. I had to make my own arrangements but it wasn't a problem to incorporate them into my itinerary. We plan on having them stop at the store on our way from the airport to get a few items and we will use the kitchen on the motu and cook our own meals. My husband hopes to "spear" a fish and grill it (ala Robinson Crusoe!)

Just be aware that some of the fish have some kind of disease that can kill you.

Be sure and asks your hosts about the fish you catch to see if they are safe to eat.

Ciguatera.

Quoting from Jan Prince's Tahiti Guide...It's caused a microscopic marine organism that lives on or near coral reefs...espeicially those that have been disturbed by development. It's especially a problem in the larger canrivorous fish..as they tend to build up toxins from the smaller infected fish they feed on. The larger open ocean fish do not carry the ciguatera toxin.

They say it is best to ask locals about the fish...as they which spots would more likely to be affected buy ciguatera.
