holte, there are also some super-cheap little chocolate cake things in the store in Fare that are made in Indonesia. They aren't gourmet, but they're great value and something small if you have a craving for something chocolate (common in our household)! Sorry I don't remember the name.

Just found Tim Tams at Albertsons too! It looks like lots of grocery stores are carrying them for the holidays this year. Made by Pepperidge Farms...they're running $2.99-3.29 a package.
So far, here in Vegas, I've seen them at...Smiths (owned by Kroger) and Albertons (not sure who the parent company is)...which means they'll also be available in Southern California (at Ralphs...also owned by Kroger) and Albertsons. I would imagine they'll be available elsewhere in the country too.
So if you need a Tim Tam fix...or just want to try them for the first time, you can either try your local grocery store in the next few weeks...OR...just head over to Gary and Caths house!! I'm sure they be more than happy to serve us some! LOL!

Maybe a Tim Tam get-together here? (Tereva loved them).

...But one ought to know the proper Aussie technique to eat them....
You have to bite a small piece at opposite corners (i.e. bite off a small piece of the top left corner and bottom right corner). Then, dip one of the end in your coffee (or milk) and suck up the liquid using the top end, like a straw. Now, take the cookie and bit into it....HEAAAAVEN!!!!

Are they actually called Tim Tams? We're leaving in one month so I want to be prepared. Old Wife, can you give more of a description of the Indonesian cakes? I love shopping at Super Fare Nui, but I don't want to stay all day in the cookie aisle.
I try to evaluate which ones I want to try, so this year I have a mission of 2 new kinds!

Yes, that's the real name. They're made by Arnott's. They are sold in a rectangular package, not a bag.

holte, the cakes were in a rectangular cardboard box that was mostly white and when we bought them, they were up near the cash (but they were 'on sale' then so that might be why). There was a picture of these little chocolate things on the front, but the details are blurry to me. I'm thinking they might have been something like Swiss Rolls, but not exactly. You really don't have to go out of your way to get them (it's not as if they were phenomenally good), but they were a nice quick sweet for a very low price (unlike so many things in FP, we were shocked they were that cheap!). Another tip--don't buy the cheapest white wine from Chile in that store, LOL. Dh was so proud of himself for being frugal and then discovered he couldn't drink the stuff unless he mixed it with Sprite!

Tim Tams are about $2.50 Australian (about $2.00 US) here at the moment, so it will be interesting to see what price they are in CFP's. Also, there is now Dark Chocolate Sensation variety available here now - BEWARE!!!
