It's just about impossible to live there unless you have a skill that they want. Maybe neurosurgeon, something like that. Not a computer person or waitress or much of anything. They give jobs to the people there. There is high unemployment.

Not to mention . . . everything is expensive, people go stir crazy trying to live on small islands, and, outside of Tahiti, there are no apartments to speak of - only small houses at high rents, IF you can find one.
I'm imagining that you have never visited FP. Try that first. Take a one month vacation to ONE island. If you are not crazy at the end of a month, THEN go talk to the authorities in Papeete to hear directly from them what, if anything, you can do to be able to move there.

well, STM I would like to live there. I don't think I would go stir crazy. I'm hoping to become a neurosurgeon. Are there on-line classes? I need that degree soon because winter is coming here any minute.

Luna,
Please contact your nearest French Consulate or embassy for the requirements for long-stays and residency:
Embassy of France in Slovenia Veleposlaništvo Republike Francije
Street address: Barjanska 1, SI-1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia Telephone: 386 (0) 1 479 0400 Fax: 386 (0) 1 479 0410 E-mail: ambafrance_si@siol.net Website: http://www.ambafrance.si Contact: Chantal de Ghaisne de Bourmont Ambassador
You would also have to obtain a work permit, which is almost impossible now with the high unemployment rate among Tahitians. Do you speak fluent French?
Good luck with your dream!

Holte, you could be in luck. I understand they are opening a neuro-surgical specialty hospital next to the golf course on Moorea. Govermnet has decided to respond to the excessive number of head injuries from golf balls and coconuts. Application online at www.NutzMOZ.fp

Thanks! I was worried my online class to be a neurosurgeon might go to waste. Here's hoping!
