BoraBora - Sofitel Motu or HBB?

I need some help! I am having a tough time deciding between Sofitel Motu or HBB for our anniversary trip in October! I like the upscale rooms at HBB - we will stay in a Pool Fare. But, the Sofitel Motu sounds equally as nice - with the best snorkeling? The concern I have about Sofitel Motu is the poor reviews of the food at the resort and the fact that it is not on the main island. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Just got back from 6 nights on the Sofitel last Saturday. Everything was absolutely perfect including the food. I don't know what the negative posts were talking about regarding the food. One night, we had a private dinner set up at the edge of the lagoon on the motu. Just beautiful. I'll satay there again in a heartbeat. Others may be as good but I can't see where they can be any better. ASK FOR VERONIQUE OR TIPOAE. TELL THEM CAROLYN AND WAYNE SAID HI!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info! What did you think of the bungalows? Which one do you recommend? I have heard #128 is very nice. Can't wait!!!

We stayed at the Motu in November and had a wonderful time. #128 is good, we had 129 and we thought it was the best. The water level is lower on 129 than 128 but you get a sunrise and sunset view with 129.
As far as the food, we had breakfast everyday at the Motu and enjoyed it. We had lunch three times at the Motu and enjoyed it. And we had dinner once at the Motu and thoroughly enjoyed it. My boyfriend had the lobster ($48 approx) and I had the duck ($27 approx).

My opinion is that you can't go wrong with either one. We just got back from the Motu and it was wonderful. Personally, for the most part, we did not care for the food other than breakfast. We had continental breakfast every morning in our bungalow which had a basket of breads, croissants, etc., and it was good. It is such an intimate, fabulous place though, and there are tons of other places to eat nearby, so you don't have to eat at the Motu restaurant if you don't want to. Not being on the island is not a problem, the boat will take you anytime you want to go. We stayed in #128 and loved it. Hotel Bora Bora was beautiful as well, and we had the best meal at the HBB restaurant. There is tons of coral at both places, so snorkling is excellent at both. The only thing I would reccommend is whichever place you stay at, stay in an OW bungalow if you can afford it.

Thanks everyone! Kellyaddie - what did you think of the beach at Motu? Is it a big deal that the beaches at HBB are nicer than the Motu? Did you request #128 in advance? We are still undecided!!!

Got back last Saturday. Stayed in #128 and loved it. There's a morey eel living in a coral head between 128 & 127. Ate at the motu restaurant the whole time except two trips to Bloody Mary's. Food at the motu was excellant in all ways. Best cheeseburgers outside the US. Room service will bring anything you want. On request they even setup a private dinner at the edge of the lagoon.

Forgot. I requested #128 about 8 months ago. They could only try and did not guarantee it but we got it afterall. It had a sunrise view and the sundeck faced the mountain. The covered deck faced out into the lagoon.

Thanks Alleyoop - How did you go about requesting a specific bungalow? I asked our travel agent to request #128, but should I also contact the resort directly?

KarenM- The beach at the Motu was fairly small, but you could have it all to yourself. The beaches were not the main attraction for us, it was ALL ABOUT THE LAGOON!!! HBB has a nice big beach. Remember though- It's a lagoon, so there's not much surf, so it's not like a beach with crashing waves. We just loved living on the water and jumping in the lagoon right off our deck. Swimming, snorkling, floating, whatever....
Alleyoop- Crap! We missed the moray eel! That would've been cool to see. Yes, I agree, the cheeseburger AND fries were good at the Motu.
We were in 128 too. Our TA was supposed to have requested it for us, but when we got there they said they didn't get a request, but they were able to get it for us anyway. I guess we lucked out.
