#8384 - 01/17/03 01:48 AM bora bora lagoon resort - what am I missing?
Anonymous Unregistered

We're planning our first trip to Bora Bora and were looking at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort since it is highly ranked on Conde Nast's Gold List, but from the comments in this forum, everyone seems to be discussing the Sofitel Motu or Hotel Bora Bora or Le Meridient or others but not much is said about the Lagoon resort. Is there a problem with this establishment, or is it lacking something that the others have?

lindav-

We stayed at the BBLR for six nights summer of 2001. We loved it as you may have read in previous posts. Just my guess, but OWB do not show up in too many trip "packages". We did a custom honeymoon, did not buy a package. If you browse around the packages that are being sold, you see the other resorts popping up more. Just a guess.

Great snorkling, beautiful pool, good restaurants, yummy and free breakfast buffet, beautiful location, friendly staff, etc... Since I have been there, I have read that the OWB's have been remodeled. Bonus!

I had the same concerns before I went and posted a similar message. I was reassured by "Spiderman" who had just been there. Glad I listened. We loved our time there. Have fun and let me know if you have any specific questions.

DC GIRL-

IF YOUR STILL OPEN TO QUESTIONS ON THE BORA BORA LAGOON RESORT.....
I WILL BE STAYING THERE IN JULY WITH MY BEST FRIEND AND HER FAMILY IN TWO OVERWATER BUNGALOWS. WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO SEE EACHOTHER FROM OUR DECKS AND BE IN AT LEAST WAIST DEEP WATER. SOME OF THE OVERWATER BUNGALOWS CLOSE TO SHORE LOOK TO BE IN VERY SHALLOW WATER, IS THAT TRUE? DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO THE BEST BUNGALOW TO STAY IN? (OTHER THAN PONTOON)
I HEAR THE SNORKELING IS FANTASTIC THERE! WE WANT TO FACE MT. OTEMANU.

Hi TZ,

Glad to hear you are heading out to the BBLR. You will be able to see your friends in the bungalow next door from the decks. As you look at a map of the resort, there are three "fingers" of bungalows the jut out in the water and also a row of side by side bungalows. We were in a bungalow in the first finger. We were the fourth bungalow in on the right hand side. Each side has seven bungalows. If you are in one of the fingers, you absolutely want to be in a bungalow on the right hand side. They face Mt. O. If you are in the row of side by side bungalows, they all face Mt. O. In the three fingers, the decks are not right next to each other, as the bungalows are set at a bit of an angle to provide a little more privacy. As for the depth of the water, I do not remember how deep or shallow the water was by the inner bungalows. I think it was about 4 - 5 feet deep off our bungalow.

Remember, catch sunset from the panorama. It is outstanding! Have a great trip and please feel free to ask more questions.

Thanks DC Girl for the info. It sounds like heaven! Did you post a trip report? I've read pages and pages on this site but not much on BBLR.

We stayed there in August before the PG cruise and we loved it but we were just as concerned as you are. Not one person from our ferry was going to the resort, it was weird!! We did have a few problems that I wrote about in previous posts but as far as the resort itself it is really nice. If I could go back I wouldn't stay there again. I would probably stay at the Nui, as it is less expensive and new (it wasn't open yet). If you have any questions about the BBLR feel free to ask!

No trip report, just lots of posts under appropriate topics. As always, if you have any specific questions, I would be more than happy to answer.

We just reutrned from BBLR last Monday. People were friendly. THe breakfast buffet was great!! Fruits, juices, pastries, eggs, sausages, bacon and omelettes made to order and etc. Everything you could want!. The shuttle is very convenient to take you to Vaitape. There are places there to eat and boutiques. Rental cars are reasonable to rent also. Went to Bloody Mary's it was wonderful. THere is a complimentary shuttle from your shuttle bus to there in the evenings. If you want to go for lunch however a rental car would be best. You will have to go to the grocery store in Vaitape and buy some french bread to feed fish and some snacks for your rooms. THe resort does not have refrigerators, so we filled our 1 sink up with ice 3 times a day to keep drinks cold. THe snorkeling was ok, but it was raining and the water was cloudy and choppy. YOu will have a great time. ENJOY!!
