I have to have some time to get my Huahine report together, but I am sick of seeing the spammer topic so I will give a little info
1. Peter, from the Pearl Farm is building a new resort on the old Bali Hai site. I think there are a couple of other investors in it with him as well as the govt.
There will be 30-40 bungalows which aren't supposed to be too expensive. There will be a restaurant close to the water.
They have started building it, but if you can believe it, I was too lazy to go look at it. Too busy enjoying the incredibly fabulous weather we had. Plus, I had to drive back to the Villas to see how hubby was doing.
2. Downtown is under construction on the lower side. The building that housed the bathrooms is being rebuilt and expanded. It looks like maybe more bathrooms and outdoor showers. Couldn't tell exactly. It was all behind a big walled barricade. Looks nice, from what I could see.
3. Our favorite breakfast place is Poevai, owned by Lovina. She has lunch and dinner as well, but we almost never eat lunch as we are out and about. It's on the corner when you go past the mayor's out of town. She gives us Tahtian lessons and she has bowls of coffee instead of those weency cups of coffee. Being Norwegian, my hubby mainlines coffee and those tiny cups are laughable to him.
To be fair, there is another breakfast downtown called Mahi Mahi. It is where Poetaina's was-the other end of town from the Guynette. They have delicious looking pastries there. But as much as I want those pastries, I don't eat them.
Another new restaurant that serves breakfast, roasted chicken to take away and Italian is up the spiral staircase . They have books for sale there as well, but they all appear to be in French. Coffee table books as well as literature. Art and office supplies as well.
4. Tim Tams. For those of you that have gotten us into Tim Tams,I want to report that they are not perfect.
You can't just eat one or two.
You can't carry them with as picnic food as they melt.
You can't carry them in your luggage as they would melt.
I'm not sure that I can get them here. That is going to be a problem for a new Tim Tam addict, is it not!!!
They have several kinds at Super Fare Nui. I want to become the distributor for them here. I will be rich ,rich, rich!
5. Pineapples are so delicious there. They come in a four pack for 500.They have made a little carrying thing out of some kind of natural material. They are tied so you can carry them easily.I have pictures, but I'm not ready yet fixing my pics.
6. We stayed in Raphael's house this time at Villas Bougianville. He rents it out more and more. I don't know who the poster was that talked about his bad experience with the house, but it was so fabulous. A huge terrace and everything you could possibly need such as a microwave, toaster, etc etc.
This year we brought a different kind of screen tent with us. There was no way to attach it to the house as the ceiling of the terrace is aluminum slats. So we tied it onto the columns of the terrace, but could only do three corners.
When we came back one day, Raphael had taken our string and ran it through the window so we had a perfect 4 corner tent.
That's the way he is. Over and over he does wonderful things for people.
7. The beauty of Huahine makes me cry. Every turn is a new photo op. The island is clean. Very little garbage thrown anywhere. And it is picked up. People are always out there working, sweeping, weed eating.
8. There was no Mayor's Christmas party this year. They have a new mayor, and he just didn't do it.
9. The Te Tiare-honestly, if I could afford it, I do not know why people do not stay there over Bora Bora. However, I understand that the garden bungalows are not that expensive. And seriously, the beach is right there. So gorgeous.
10. We went snorkeling at Relais Mahana almost everyday. The beach there goes on for a long ways either direction for those beach walkers.
Snorkeling was fabulous.
I am sure I saw a stone fish. I saw a really, really ugly fish on the bottom, and I didn't know what it was. I looked at a fish book and I am sure it was a stone fish.
Someone must have taken it away as I didn't see it again. Now I know what they look like so at least I can alert someone immediately. It looks prehistoric and it changes color. The one I saw was kind of blue. I always thought they were brown, but that is not so.
11. We saw a million fish as Motu Vairea in the Coral Gardens. I think there are a ton of fish after the cruises bring their customers there as they feed the fish.
12. Some people we met said that they enjoy drift snorkeling at the Sofitel. The Sofitel is a skeleton now. Now we heard that there is a Japanese and an American who want to revive the Sofitel and have a casino there. I hope that it's not the same person who had designs on it before.
13. We went to the scenic overlook on Huahine Iti. We do get in a rut there and hadn't been there for a few years. It is magnificent. So beautiful We saw a para sailor. I have pictures of that as well.
I'll have to think on what else.
As I say, Huahine does not disappoint.

Oh, you brought back such memories, holte. Even though things have changed (restaurants, etc.), I can just picture it all!

Thanks for the great report. Huahine is on our list for our next visit. Regarding the Tim Tams - SuperTarget has them for $2.50 each. Three different varieties. Yummm.

Did you know that Cate Blanchett was the original ' Tim- Tam' girl in the series of commercials promoting the product in Australia in the 1990's?

Thanks, Inese! Nice to hear that the old Bali Hai site is finally being rebuilt, he's been planning that a long time.
