We're returning to FP in September for our 5 year anniversary.

Looking at the Air Tahiti web site, and notice they have a winter and a spring schedule. Only the winter schedule is shown at this time...

We're flying PPT-Fakarava round trip...trying to determine schedules to make sure connections to our accomodations work out on Fakarava.

Does anyone know if the schedules change very much between the winter and spring? I'd like to get as much of our planning and reservations done now if possible...

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

Scott & Nicki

I know they change (we had the opposite problem...we were booking for November and had to wait for the winter schedule to show). And the Fakarava flights are once/day or less so that makes it really important to have your flights booked before finalizing your accommodations there. We stayed at Raimiti and had to have our inter-island flight booked before our stay there could be booked so we had to wait until the flights because available (and there still can be changes after that!). What we did was contact Raimiti and let them know what days we wanted to be there and booked as soon as the flights became available. I think everyone's in the same boat (so to speak!) so it wasn't as if the place could fill up before the schedule came out. We had to juggle our days at our other places to accommodate the time on Fakarava...and don't forget to keep your international flights in mind, too).

Hi SoDak, I have copies of the last couple of years "summer" schedules being April to October and Old Wife is correct in saying that basically they only fly once a day to Fakarava. The 2008 summer schedule is much the same as the "winter" one that is up on the website at the moment so you could roughly work it around that one until it gets closer.

From personal experience it is worthwhile to get basic itineraries in place and then "roll with the punches" if the flight schedules change.

You could also send them an email and ask about their schedule on the dates you are planning. Use this link to access an email form: http://www.airtahiti.aero/contact.php

Very often the customer service people will know the future schedule long before it is published.

Good idea, Barbi! I vaguely recall doing this and they were really helpful.

We tried e-mailing them for our last vacation (we booked in February and were trying to get flight details for November) but it was still too far away for them to give us any exact flight schedules!!

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I can get anything from their customer service department...at the very least the date when they expect the spring schedule to be released.

I'm going to post another note in the atolls board...looking for thoughts on Raimiti vs. Tetamanu Village/Sauvage vs. Motu Aito Paradise. If anyone has experience, feel free to chime in!

Isn't the Sauvage closed because of the renovations at the main hotel?

Justine~ I think they are talking about the Tetamanu Sauvage on Fakarava, not the Kia Ora Sauvage on Rangiroa.

SoDak~ The flight schedules for Fakarava don't seem to change that much from season to season. They have been very close to the same for the last few years. In the past, the only day Raimiti does not accept new arrivals is on Sunday. The flight arrives in Fakarava too late in the day to allow for a safe boatride down to Raimiti. All other days, the flights are earlier enough in the day for them to provide the boat transportation.
