Morty, Welcome to the forum!

I am familiar with both Les Tipaniers and Hotel Hibiscus. I prefer Hotel Hibiscus, and here is why:

The best stretch of white sand beach, in my opinion, is at Hibiscus -- you can walk for about 1/2 mile past other properties either way from there, and can access the old Club Med beach as well. Les Tips has a pretty beach, but it is very small, doesn't connect to anything except the (windy) kitesurfing beach next door at the gated private community of Moe Moea, and is often crowded.

The sunsets are better from Hibiscus, which faces more west than Les Tips, which faces more north.

The staff and clientele at Les Tips are more French; the staff at Hibiscus is more Tahitian, and the guests are more diversified, from all over the world. I think the best authentic Polynesian feel is at Hibiscus.

Both locations are within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and small grocery stores at Le Petit Village. Hibiscus is slightly closer, but not enough to make a real difference in this factor.

Both properties have a restaurant on site. Les Tips has two, but its beachfront restaurant is not open for dinner, only breakfast and lunch and happy hour, and dinner is served at its roadside restaurant. The Sunset restaurant at Hibiscus serves dinner as well, with outdoor tables overlooking the beach and lagoon.

Also, Hibiscus has a small pool, which is nothing fancy, but Les Tips does not.

Others may differ in preference. I hope this helps!

We stayed at Les Tips last November for 16 nights. Loved the place. Great snorkeling and people watching in front of our beach bungalow. Restaurants (beach and main) are both good. It is more French than Tahitian, but that didn't subtract from the experience. We walked in the water almost down to the IC to the east of us. Going west toward Hibiscus, we got as far as the old club med. Check the trip reports thread. I posted some pictures of Les Tips under the 'Moorea 2009 pictures' thread.

There is a path on the west side of the hotel. They bring your bags on a luggage cart.

As you can see from Joe's posts and others here in the trip reports, both properties are good, and you will enjoy your stay at either!
