I think I'm going to have to reconsider my opinion of the weather in Feb. LOL! Maybe it's not a good time of the year to go afterall. Guess I got lulled into a false sense of security by the weather of my 4 previous Feb trips. :-) But I had a gut feeling this might happen on this trip...being an El Nino year....it's been causing weather havoc all over the place.

We survived. Weather was pretty nasty. In addition to the tropical storm and the cyclone...we had rain and lots of clouds on many other days too. Only 2 days out of the 14 were actually mostly sunny nice all day long. Had 3 days that were heavy clouds all day....and 9 days of rain and/or heavy winds.

I'll have a trip report in few days. After I get some sleep. Overall, despite the weather, we still had a great time. Even with crappy weather, you're still in paradise!

BTW...it was raining when I left Vegas...it rained for most of our trip...I come back to Vegas ...guess what? MORE RAIN!!! :-(

Patti, glad you're back in 1 piece. I'm anxious to hear about the AF flight. Considering them for our next trip.

Welcome back, Patti. We were all very concerned about you with Oli! Did you get evacuated to the main building at Club Bali Hai? Have any photos of the damage?

Great attitude about the weather there. Last time we went to Moorea, we had mostly cloudy days (and rain, including some heavy downpours...in fact, they came and got us to come to dinner early because a storm was coming in and they wanted to get everyone served and everything cleaned up before it hit). Our photos aren't the nice, bright tropical photos we had the first time we went, but it's funny because we barely noticed at the time (other than when we were snorkelling...without the sun, the colours underwater don't pop at all).

Joe~ I was planning on doing a whole AF/ATN comparison post soon. So that'll help you. Can you wait a day or three for it? I have to get al settled back into life before I'll have time for reports.

If you need a quick answer...I'd say go for it. I was not disappointed in their service at all. In some areas they are far superior to ATN. There are good and bad points about each. But not so much in favor of one over the other in my opinion. The over riding factor should be the total cost including overnights on Tahiti and possibly at LAX. Which ever turns out the cheapest should be the way to go.

Like I said, in a couple days I'll give a whole point by pont comparison.

Tracy~Yes we did get evacuated the the main building. Spent the last 2 nights there. No real serious damage to the property. Just some minor stuff...The sandy beach walkway to the annex area completely washed away. A small part of the deck at the Blue Pineapple collapsed. Downed branches and stuff from the various trees. But overall not bad at all as we were a bit more protected in being in Cooks Bay. I understand the northwest side of the island took a pretty good hit though. I'm curious how Barbi's Fare Miti made out. I understand the dock at Les Tip broke up.

Overall we still had a great time. I'm not so sure I'd feel that way if it was my very first trip there. I'd probably have been very disappoiinted with all the bad weather. But considering it was my 6th trip and I really had no real "touristy" activities planned at all....so nothing really to complain about.

Yes, I thought Cooks Bay would protect you a bit. I'm glad you were able to get home okay (though being stranded in FP wouldn't be the end of the world!).

Did I ever mention that my sister-in-law is a descendant of Captain Cook? I can't remember if it's a direct line or through his brother. I'll have to ask her.

Isn't it fun to be on Moorea when the winds blow and the rain
doesn't stop.
Years ago we had 26 straight days of rain in April. It was so bad we almost had to put outboard motors on our cars.
Glad you back safe and sound.
