We really need tourist dollars here in the State of Hawaii.:) Thanks for the comparison of the two arilines. We have no choice of airlines from Hawaii unless we fly back to LA (have family there to babysit the twins) and connect to ATN or AF.

Great report, Patti. Thanks for taking the time to write it.
I will add one more consideration (although this may have changed with TN's schedule revisions).
All of the AF flights originate in Paris. Some PAX deplane in LAX, and some stay on. Those staying on will have taken the best seats on board. Sometimes you cannot reserve seats ahead, as the through-PAX have the priority, and those boarding in LA get seats only after the plane leaves Paris.
Some of the TN flights originate in LA, and don't have this issue. (Some of the TN flights also originate in Paris, and have the same issues as AF)

Actually STM you have to pre-select and reserve your seat online or by phone (your local AF representative) long time before the actual flight because even when travelling from Paris to Papeete or vice versa there won't be much left to chose from on the departure day itself, so I don't think the through pax have priority, it is rather first come first go...

We had reserved and paid for two first class tkts LAX-PPT on Air France, and when we arrived in Los Angeles to board the flight, the AF counter advised us we had been bumped to affaires class because they sold our seats to a client originating in Paris. They offered compensation of sorts, but we were not happy customers.

Its been a LONG time since I flew AF to PPT, so they may have changed their procedures (or not, as in the case of cacdean)

Unfortunately ATN has the same bad habit when it concerns local governement officials going "walk-about"

This is a wonderful comparison and I'm sure will be very useful to others in the future.
Anyone care to compare their Business Class? I used ATN Business last time, and it was good going out (not great), but not so good coming back. I should have ntoed the plane names, but did not.
The one general point I have found on ATN is that the food going out is lots better than the food coming back (to LAX.) I've always put that down to superior provisioning capabilities in L.A.

We found the same thing about the food. It was okay going to FP, but inedible coming back. Lots of bits of bone in the 'boneless' turkey thing, cold eggs, etc.

We have flown business class on ATN the last few time we went. 2 previous times were good, but this last trip in November was really good. The food both ways was the best we've had, very tasty. As for comfort, ALL ATN aircraft could use a little TLC. Have never flown AF business, but I'd like to hear comparisons. AF business is about 1K less than ATN.
