Neat idea. I'll let you know if I need them sometime.

Don't worry, P - we always buy all our food in FP and last time in BB I managed to clean out the small corner store of all Winfield Blue cigarettes and Tahiti Drink plus bottles of rum!!!

That's true (that buying all your food there will help the local economy), but for some of us, a trip to FP is so expensive that we're stretching our dollars so far that extras aren't possible. If we bring a bit of food (the Crystal Light, etc. so we don't buy pricey pop), then we have money left to fit in a 4x4 tour or boat tour. The money stays in FP...just in a different form.

One thing I always bring is canned white tuna, because I make pasta salad with it there, and do not like the locally available canned tuna in FP. But often we use the leftovers from a grilled fresh tuna dinner too!

Some of the spices available in FP are awesome! We bought a small bottle of granulated garlic (called "ail") one year, and loved it -- now we bring several large bottles home with us each trip! It's good to try new things!

We brought some food items with us when we went for 2 months in 2008...and decided it was not worth it for us.
EXCEPTIONS: ziplocks, some small spice packets, Rice Krispie Treats that I can only justify while in FP, and Power Bars.
We eat differently when there....too hot for the regular stuff we eat here and besides, we're in another country and like to experiment.
Nothing better than a pineapple, fresh baguette and some of that exceptional blue cheese that Denver Joe introduced us to..OMG.....heaven.

We have a flat tupperware we take an assortment of 1/2 jars of
Penzey spices. We also bring home several jars of "Ail" in different granulated sizes. Zip lock bags are a must. We also took stuffing mix and corn meal for our TD dinner. Dried cranberries were also taken for TD. After all these years of going to Moorea we found a veggie farm this last time in Nov 09
that has fresh corn,green beans,raddish,lettuce,tomatoes,cabbage
picked on order from the fields.

Bob, WHERE is that farm? We are leaving next weekend, and are duplicating the TD dinner we missed in November with some of our local friends! (Today I packed the potato-masher.)

The granulated garlic (Ail) sounds interesting. We'll need to get some while there!

we will be taking our honeymoon on March 1st for 9 days...one day in Papeete, 4 days in Moorea and then the last 4 days in Bora Bora...my question is...should we bring alcohol from LAX or should we just buy it in Moorea? Also does anyone know how much alcohol you are allowed to bring on the plane with you from LAX (Air Tahiti Nui or the plane from Papeete to Moorea)?

thank you~

You can bring up to 2 liters per person. Whether or not you should buy it at LAX depends on what you drink. If it's wine or rum, you can buy that for pretty reasonable prices on Moorea and Bora. Anything else, you'd be much better off buying it duty free at LAX.
