Hi All, I have read that in the hotels the bathrooms have 110V plugs for shavers. All I will be needing is to charge my video camera and laptop, should I take a power strip? Also, are there laundry facilities at the hotels? I will be there two weeks and if I can throw a few things in the wash-then I won't have to pack near as much? Getting realllly anxious for the trip, the islands, the honeymoon, etc., etc,....don't want to have to sweat the small stuff when I get there. Reguards, Norma

Just bring an adaptor or two...the ones for Europe, with the 2 round prongs, and then you will be able to use any outlet in the room to charge or re-charge your electronics. No need for a converter as most electronics made these days are set to run on a variety of voltages.
Only your shaver or hairdryer/flat iron would probably need that 110 outlet.
Some hotels have laundry facilities and some don't. What I like to do is pack a few of the liquid Tide in a sink packets and wash a few things in the sink. Roll and stomp dry in a towel and the hang to dry the rest of the way. I make sure I pack light weight stuff that washes and dries easily.

You may want to check the Amp rating of the chargers (because shavers are low in amerage consumption) or get an adapter. Most chargers will accept multiple voltage ranges, so you may not need the power strip. Which hotels are you staying at, because the LAST thing you want to do in FP is laundry. We usually just wash out our "repeat clothes" when we are in the shower. Everything dries pretty quick there! Don't even think about taking clothes that you need to dry clean or press - you won't wear them. Think of going to the beach in summer for every day, then add some casual non-offensive clothes for dinner and you're set. By the way, welcome to the forum.

I never thought of the shower either! We will be at the Sofitel on Moorea and the Meridien on Bora Bora. I would rather have one small piece of luggage than pack way too much and have to worry about carrying bags everywhere. I figure some swimwear, 2 shorts, 2 tops and a dress in case we go out- but definately nothing that will have to pressed or dry cleaned not on vacation!! So it's either wash clothes once or smell a little odd;) It's bad enough to take my laptop, but wye-fye is free in a lot of places so it's cheaper to communicate with my kids than using a phone.

I rinse clothes in the shower, after sudsing in the sink,a doing Patti's towel stomp at the end. There is a good product available locally for hand-washing clothes, called "Genie" -- it comes in a blue and white tube for about $5-6 USD. (We have now come to associate its pleasant smell with FP!) Bring a few plastic clothespins too.
Funny thing: "Wye-Fye" is pronounced "Wee-Fee" in FP!
I wouldn't bother with the power strip; just get a cheap plug adaptor (the kind with the European rounded two-prongs).

BarbiJKM, That is funny-wee fee. Thanks for the input. Another question popped up- what about FedEx? Do they have an office any where on the islands? If, no when, I go shopping, and I buy something that will put me over my luggage weight limit, I was thinking of sending it back, any thoughts?

We took Zero (is it an international product?) in a small bottle and hand-washed our clothes. A few plastic clothespegs and a short line of rope and you're all set. Just have a good look at your t-shirts. We found the heavy cotton t-shirts took forever to dry. Either light cotton or a cotton-poly mix dried quickly.

I'm not aware of any Fed Ex service in FP, but it would be VERY costly. Also mail service is unreliable and requires a tedious customs process. I'd pay for the excess luggage fee if you need to and bring your stuff home with you instead of shipping!

I've never though about using the shower either. I've used the sink to clean socks and undies but never though about using the shower for clothes. I would call or email your hotel and check to see if they have a laundry service. If I'm on vacation, I'd rather have someone else do it than myself doing it when I could be doing something more fun and relaxing.
