The (heart shaped) atoll of Tupai which lies just next to Bora Bora may become the next destination in FP... there are talks of a huge development project to turn this little gem into an international resort, including casino, golf etc... Until recently the little island was used exclusively by a former FP president and has already an airstrip.

The same investment group is apparantly looking into buying up abandonned and/or closed properties around FP (think maybe HBB or the Club Med's...)

More details in about 1 month

Very pretty atoll (it would be sad to ruin it with a casino!).

WAY too pretty for a casino... or golf!

Eperera, I have not forgotten about the flip flops from the Tahiti Move selection, they just never called me back and meantime I went for 6 weeks to Europe... Do you still want them?

Oh no! Golf courses pour massive amount of fertilizers into the water -- I hope they don't destroy that beautiful atoll with something like that.

I wonder if they realize how big the market is for people seeking a more "natural" experience, without sacrificing too much in terms of comfort...

It appears it may be "end of story" for the Moorea golf next month... so in that light one can certainly ask questions and above all in the light of the wish to create a mini Vegas on Tupai... is something that is hard to digest

Poehere, yes, I'd still enjoy the flip flops! I was not concerned if you had forgotten, as we are buried in snow here in Colorado, they won't be worn for months!! Maybe we can impose on Barbi to bring them home with her... Please, Barbi?

Poehere~ Do you mean the golf course on Moorea is going to close? Honestly, it wouldn't shock me. I never quite understood why they thought it would be successful.

Actually he is threatening to do so by March 31st, the whole project was based upon the construction of a big hotel/resort which was to be a major part and of course would (suposedly) add enough players and revenue to at least break-even...
So far he has been unsuccessfull to get cooperation from the local banks, so he's p***** off and in view of the government changes (9 in 4 years) hard to convince foreign investors to do anything here. The construction of the hotel was supposed to start March last year...

Have to say the guy has b**** because it is a beautiful but enormous costly project and they have not always been cooperative with private investors here... he's had real hard times and it would be really sad to see something like that happening!
