what is the best way to maximize our layover time on tahiti if we get back from bora bora early afternoon and flight out is around 11:00 pm? last minute shopping in papeete/rent car and do a mini tour/last minute snorkel or kayak at the aquarium? Is it possible to day use at the Beachcomber or Bathey's dive shop? just searching out options to squeeze in some last minute french polynesia time :) This will be on a saturday and I think most shops close early but I prefer activities over shopping anyways!

If you get a day room at the IC or SOfitel (next to each other) you could do some last shopping at the Carrefour mall, only 10 minute walk and the supermarket has lots of t-shirts, pareo's, shell stuff, calendars etc.

Hi P, just wondering where the Carrefour is exactly. When you walk out of the entrance to IC do you turn left or right?

Interesting question! Is anything open at 6am in Tahiti? Heh... our flight gets in at 5:30am to PPT but then our flight to Moorea is at 7am. Guess we shouldn't risk trying to 'explore' upon arrival :)
But for our return, we leave from Bora and get to PPT at 6:40pm and the flight from PPT back to LAX doesn't depart till 10pm. Anyone have any suggestions as to what we could do, if it's not too much trouble to grab a bite to eat or do last-minute shopping not far from the PPT airport?

By the time you deplane, go through immigration, collect your luggage, exchange some money, and get yourself over to the Air Moorea terminal to check in for your flight, it will be close to your 7am flight time.
Oops...forgot your return part. There's really not going to be enough time to go anywhere. The whole check in process there is VERY slow. You won't have too much of that 3:20 left by the time you're done. There are several stores at the airport to shop in. And a small snack bar inside and outside of security. And a bar where you can have a drink or two while waiting to board your flight.

shelby-we like to go to the Plaza where the cruise ships dock. I forget the name of it. They have tons of food options there and lots of times they have entertainment on a stage. There is plenty of time to do that and get back for your flight. If you can't check your luggage, put it in the luggage storage place right there by the airport.
There are also some areas set up for shopping there as well. If you are interested, I can give you more info on how to get there, or someone else may give you the info.
You can take LeTruck there, but take a cab back.

The plaza is Vaiete. The roulottes set up there every night and it's a great place to eat and people watch before your return flight.

Thanks All! I tried to arrange for last flight back to tahiti but it was full so we'll be getting to tahiti around 16:30 and have a little time to get some last minute "tahiti time" in. Since it'll be close to sunset time maybe we will soak that in then utilize some of your suggestions :)

That's plenty of time to go to the Plaza. If you want to be sure, take a taxi there as well.
