Trying to decide between the two for a honeymoon. We are doing Moorea and Bora Bora. Moorea is already set. Looking at premium overwater, pricing is similar.
Any opinions ?

Hi ronscuba and welcome to the forum. We've stayed at both Le Meridien (got married there in 1999 and stayed there in Nov 2009 in Premium OWB) and have stayed at Pearl POWB 35. What are you looking for? Food? Cost? Room size? Depth of water? Snorkeling? If you haven't used the search function on this forum, then you need to be more specific. We are only too glad to answer whatever question you have, but you need to set the scene as to what you are after. Fire away, ronscuba.

We will be in Bora Bora for 4 nights. So all our breakfasts and 2 dinners will be at the resort. Room size, bigger is better, but as honeymooners, privacy from other rooms is more important. We will both snorkel, but we are staying at Sofitel in Moorea which will have good snorkeling.
I guess between the 2, views, privacy, and ambience, photo opportunities, is there really a difference ? I am a photo/video hobbyist. We will be their end of July if that matters. Travel agent is saying Le Meridien is a little more luxurious but he says is more like 6 or 1/2 dozen. Just would like to hear experiences from people who have stayed at both.

Like I said. We've stayed at both and they have their own advantages. Pearl has a "nicer feel", but Le Meridien has the BEST view of Otemanu. Pearl has the best shuttle service, but Le Meridien has better Premium rooms. Pearl has the best ambience of ALL resorts we have stayed at on BB (Le Meridien, Pearl, Thalasso and Club Med) but Le Meridien is where we got married, so it holds a special place. If you had to choose? I'd go Pearl. Either one - you won't be dissappointed.

Thanks. I am a photo and video hobbyist, so views are pretty important to me.

The view from LM is far more spectacular than from the Pearl, however if you're planning on leaving the resort a lot (dining on the main island etc) the Pearl is far more practical as their landbase is pretty close to the main village Vaitape, whereas LM has a landbase on the Eastern side of BB (most resto's will pick you up free of charge though but the transfer time is longer)
As a photo hobbyist I'd say the LM, from the ocean side of the LM motu you'll have views over the islands Taha'a and Raiatea as well

All, My husband has just seen another trip report from a different website discussing the closing of Le Meridien on Bora Bora earlier in the month due to Oli, is the hotel back open with no issues? I have not heard from Yves saying anything to the contrary, so I am assuming everything is okay... but you know what happens when you assume... We are leaving in 7 days, so I was just wondering?

The turtle lagoon at LeM is pretty cool, but the snorkeling on the property is terrible. The Pearl is somewhat better, but not as good of a view. (note that nothing by Le M on the east side of the island is great for snorkeling. The long motu blocks the water exchange with the ocean so the water is too hot for coral or there isn't enough plankton for the coral to eat.)
Many are happy with the Sofitel Motu view (no one in their right mind would complain about the snorkeling) or the Nui.
