Wow, good news that it wasn't worse. Heard from Jacques on Moorea that waves were only about 18" there. Sounds bad in the Marquesas.

Thanks for the update, Poehere! We are glad you are okay!

Coucou Barbara, on your way yet?? LOL

ATN just announced over the radio that the only flights affected is the one from Tokyo diverted to Hawaii and flights for Auckland, all other flights are as per schedule

Happy and safe travels, bisous

Have a fantastic time, Barbara! I hope the weather and other natural phenomena co-operate!

Maluha just emailed (me and probably everyone else here she has an email address for). The Tuamotus got nothing (which is very lucky considering how low they are). She said the Marquesas got hit the worst. The water went out, leaving all the boats just sitting on the bare bottom and then the water came back in. This happened 6 times and the biggest wave was 4 metres. I can't imagine what that would have looked like (I wish I could have seen it)! Moorea had a similar thing with the water going out (though not completely as it did in the Marquesas)& back 6 times, but it wasn't the big show the Marquesas got (probably because of the lagoon).

Old Wife, here is a video (tsunami TNTV journal) from Hiva Oa

or here:

The Marquesas have no barrier reef and deep bays... 3 small boats got into trouble but no one injured fortunately

Great videos -- thanks for posting! I will share with some Marquesan friends who are in Hawaii at the moment, and went through the dud of a tsunami there. (Thank goodness it was a dud too!)

Not a great start to our trip today -- we arrived in LAX at 1 p.m., plenty of time to walk down to ATN and check in for our 4:25 flight, but it hadn't left Paris yet. Now we are due to leave LAX at 9:05 tonight (hopefully), which will get us into Papeete after 3:30 a.m.tomorrow. We are hanging out out a day room in LAX at the moment...

Poehere, we will need to postpone our coffee date tomorrow morning! I'll call you after we wake up tomorrow, and see if we can meet up later in the day. (I sent you an email too.)

I do NOT do well on "red-eyes"! But I'm going to paradise, so who can complain?

That's too bad about your delay, Barbi. I'm sure you'll quickly forget about all this hassle once you're there.
