We want to do lots of activities but we are so bummed that the weather is soooo crappy...any ideas...besides trying for babies...haha

Today from Tahiti Presse (but the weather is supposed to get better this weekend!): ......... Events : 03/05/2010 at 6:01PM Papeete issues alert to avoid capital after 2 days of heavy rain, flooding
(Tahitipresse) - The Papeete City Hall issued an alert shortly before noon Friday urging people not to visit French Polynesia's capital due to serious flooding caused by two days of heavy rain.
Outside access to several parts of the city were impossible due to the flooding as rivers and water drainage systems overflowed.
The French High Commission in Papeete set up an emergency committee at 1 pm Friday to keep track of the situation.
Météo France forecast more rain for Saturday with the first signs of clearing and increasingly sunny skies not occurring before Sunday. The French meteorological service issued an alert Friday for heavy rain in the Society Islands, which include the Leeward and Windward Islands.
Friday afternoon, the French High Commission issued a media communiqué announcing the Météo France alert. There were 150mm (5.9 inches) of rain measured "during the past hours" in Faa'a, the commune next to the City of Papeete.
Mudslides were reported in Tahiti's communes of Faa'a and Punaauia and on Maupiti in the Leeward Islands, according to the High Commission.
The commission advised people to stay at home except in case of an emergency.

How long was the airport closed? I can't imagine aircraft were able to take off or land. I would have been angry at not being able to get there, but OK with not being able to leave!

They closed for most of Friday... sort of like a "déjà-vue" what it'll be like in 2O years orso with the sea level rising!

WOW! Is that flooding or storm surge (ocean had risen)? When were at Niue in 2005, we saw photos of Cyclone Heta from December 2003 that had caused the ocean to rise 40 metres (135ft). All that was left was concrete slabs on top of the cliffs that were once houses, so the storm surge can be worse than the rain and wind. Obviously the reef around Tahiti was not a "barrier" in this case. Has the sea level subsided yet? According to the experts, the storm surge is the most devastating and unpredictable.

Flooding, is rather case of bad urban planning and/or forgetting to clean to water evacuations...
