Hi all!

Just wondering if it's OK to do C&R (catch and release) fishing in/around Bora Bora (and Moorea too). Either from the hotel docks/bungalows or the beach/shore (or even off a kayak!). It would be great to be able to - I have a travel rod that I'd love to bring along.

Anyone know?

There are certain places on Moorea that are protected from fishing. The lagoon in front of Les Tips for example. Just ask at the property where you want to try. The'll let you know if it's OK or not. Never fished on BB, so I don't know if they have protected areas also.

In bb you can fish practically anywhere, just be aware of currents and intensive boat traffic in the lagoon when venturing out in a kayak

Yep, my wife and I ended up paddling outside of the Thalasso cordoned-area in a canoe to fish. I didn't catch a thing :( Heh... There were quite a few boats that went back and forth around us which was scary when the wakes came. Good thing we were in an outrigger! If we were in kayaks we probably would have flipped over several times :O

Here's a link to the picture. It's the brown colored fish under the rock.with a red mouth. VERY creepy looking. If anyone knows what kind of fish it is.that'd be great!! We saw it while snorkeling at our resort in Bora Bora!
