Looking for some advice... My partner and I are arriving in Tahiti on Saturday evening May 15. We'll have 2 full days in Tahiti before taking a very early morning flight to Maupiti on the following Tuesday. Staying at the Radisson in Tahiti. My original thought was to venture into Papeete on Sunday afternoon but I understand that many things may be closed. Has anyone spent time in Papeete on a Sunday? Are things really that dead? Thanks for your input!

Best would be to rent a car for the sunday and drive around the island. In Papeete everything is closed apart from a couple of bar / restuarants like Le Retro and 3 Brasseurs. (The market opens only for fish until like 10 am orso) You could then venture into town on monday with everything open after 9 am

Next to the Radisson on the beach (below the Taha'ra = the old hotel built against the cliff) is a nice place called "Le Beach House" for lunch should you want to change some air

Thanks very much for the reply--that sounds like it could be a good idea. Our plan for Monday was to take a 4x4 trek to the interior of the island and I suppose we could try to switch that to Sunday as well or perhaps even try to SCUBA on Sunday. Do you happen to know if the 4x4 excursion operators or dive operators are typically open on Sundays? Thanks much.

Hi corb0078, try emailing the resort and ask whether the tours run on Sunday (I would personally do a tour on Sunday because as Poehere said everything else is closed) and then you can go to the markets in Papeete on Monday.

There's a couple of dive operators who work on Sundays, do you have a particular one in mind? As for the 4x4 interior tour, in view of the present low tourism I would say they'd be stupid not to offer such an activity on a Sunday...

Just so you know that bookings through the hotel/resort usually includes an average 20% commission for the hotel so prob best to reserve directly with the one offering the activity, might save some $$$
