Hi - we are looking to stay in each place for 5 nights in late May as part of our honeymoon. We are keen divers so thats the main reason for heading over to the Tuamotus. Can people recommend accommodation in both places? Normally we aren't fussed about luxury but seeing as this is our honeymoon we are looking to have a bit of luxury & definitely some privacy. The places we are currently looking at are: Rangiroa: Maitai Fakarava: White Sands Beach Resort Thanks in advance!

On Rangi, the Hotel Kia Ora is the place to go. Unfortunately, it's closed for a year or so for remodel. Les Relais de Josephine is right on the pass. Good location. On Fakarava, try Raimiti. Look at the Trip Reports section for reports on Raimiti. Great place.

If you're looking for luxury, you might not find Raimiti suits you. It's a unique place that many of us (me included) love, but there's no electricity and there was no hot water when we were there (I think they might have solar-heated water now...so maybe warm rather than really hot water now--someone who's been more recently could comment on that). The food's incredible, the service, too, but I wouldn't call the accommodations "luxurious" if you're thinking of the usual sense of the word. Think Robinson Crusoe/adventure and you've got it.

I don't think there is ANY really luxury places on Fakarava. The White Sands Beach Resort is the old Maitai Fakarava. It's a resort, but only a few steps above anywhere else on the atoll.

LOL, Joe and Bev. You think we don't remember you two are married? That's so cute. And I love your signature, Bev.
