Hi there - my husband and I are going to FP for our 4th anniversary in late Sept./early Oct. We want to go to Huahine, Moorea, and are 3/4 sure on Bora Bora (we like the more adventurous, local thing but everyone says, you can't go there and not go to Bora Bora - it's stunning even if it's super expensive and touristy).
I want to stay in an OWB on my actual anniversary, but I can't figure out on which island. The other times we want to stay in a beach bungalow, or super nice, private garden bungalow. For Bora Bora we are looking at the Sofitel Motu. I had read that they merged with the other Sofitel across the way - when you make a reservation here does anyone know if you are specifying which property? My listing just says "Sofitel Marara Beach Resort and Private Island." If we did OWB here we would want it on the motu.
For Moorea, we've been offered the Intercontinental, but I understand there is some heavy construction going on right now, and I don't know if that will be wrapped up by September. Plus I've seen/read that their OWB are more like half-beach bungalows, with their decks on stilts over the water. I think the Hilton and Sofitel both look nice, it's so hard to decide! Any opinions on if we should do the OWB on Bora Bora or Moorea, and any choice resorts for that?
Thank you!

Ia ora na Sabine, either way BB or Moorea on a OWB would be great... Huahine is a very green lush -back to nature- sort of island so for the special OWB-experience imho the other 2 would be great
Moorea, true, the intercontinental Moorea bungalows are sort of sitting with its bum on the beach so only half way in the water... but don't worry about the construction it should be finished long by then. Sofitel is a beautiful property on a long nice beach right across from Tahiti so a very nice view too, a little away from it all. Hilton is in the middle of the North side of the island with good snorkling, smaller beach but a little more "central" if wanting to go somewhere else for dinner etc.
BB, When booking Sofitel, specify you want the "private island" it is a nice small intimite property with shuttles going all the time to the main resort which is located in an area where you'll find a small supermarket and plenty of resto's and snacks. Hope this helps

There are actually a few true overwater bungalows at the Moorea IC. They are #s 510, 511, 512 and 514. Unfortunately, resorts don't guarantee you specific bungalows so if you want a true (all overwater) bungalow, I wouldn't get it there. We stayed in a beach bungalow at the IC and loved it. We were in 311 and it very private (there was so much vegetation around our deck that people couldn't see us sitting out when they walked by. I liked the location of 310 better, though, for views (though 311 had amazing views, too). You might also find you get a better deal if you book the Sofitels on Moorea as well as Bora Bora (they might make a deal with you for using both of their properties). Personally, I'd stay in an OWB on Bora Bora. The lagoon at the Sofitel Motu is so beautiful!

Thank you for your advice. The itinerary so far is 1 night Tahiti at Sofitel Maeva Beach, mountain view room (don't care that this is not "luxury", only 1 night). Then 4 nights Te Tiare on Huahine in a garden bungalow, 4 nights Moorea Intercontinental in an OWB, and 3 nights Bora Bora at Sofitel Motu in a treehouse - well technically "island luxury lagoon view bungalow", but whatever :)
I know you can not reserve rooms, but I have heard of people requesting them. Any opinion on best OWB at the Intercontinental on Moorea? Looking at a map it looks like 614 is ideal, since it is sticking off the end all by itself. But I can't tell from the map what the view is of. Ideally I'd like a view of the lagoon without other bungalows, and a motu or the main island mountains in there too.

Gracenrich -
As far as I know, "bison" refers to the North American animal, and "buffalo" is technically the Asian or African animal (as in water buffalo).
Yellowstone is beautiful, I went when I was 4, and 25 years later I still have memories of it. Old Faithful is really neat, but the stench of the hot springs and bubbling mud pits is awful!

Sabine, you can always request a bungalow, but I think it's even more important to tell the resort what it is you're looking for. So in your case, email them and ask for 614 and tell them you want a totally overwater bungalow (list the #s) and you prefer 614 because it doesn't have a view of the other bungalows. I found the IC gave me a great bungalow when the one I wanted wasn't available (they actually gave me one I was a lot happier with than I would have been with my choice)!

funny comment on the buffalo/bison. There are no buffalo in north america, it's a misnomer when you hear one speak of the buffalo. there are only bison.
