G&C, the detector went off for me and I got the same pat-down. The security at Faa'a was tighter than at LAX. They went through Bev's stuff before the x-ray, after the x-ray machine and after she left the boarding area. They also wanded her before hitting the tarmac.

wow. I wonder what's up with that?
What is your impression of why the detector went off?
I am already ticked off that I can't wear a skirt and have to wear pants. But if the detector is going to go off randomly, I might as well wear my skirt and be comfortable.

I forgot to take off my watch. But they were patting down almost everyone. Not the grope like TSA, just a quick arms and legs.

The patdown they do at Faaa (to everyone) when boarding your flight home is nothing compared to the more invasive "enhanced patdown" they do at LAX when departing, IF you alarm either the metal detector or the body scanner or if you "opt-out" of the scanner.

do you get a woman for the pat down if you are a woman?
Seriously, I doubt if the TSA's signed up originally to do this.
How would you like to be patting down people? Bluck.
Maybe Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie, for example, wouldn't be bad.
The whole thing is just so creepy. But as the mother of three who had my children at teaching hospitals, all I can say is live it up, TSA.
I would be more concerned if I was some hot young chick, but as a grandmother, I am sure that TSA's are as revolted as I am to be patting me down.

Unfortunately for me (Cath) it was a woman who did the pat-down - I was looking for Mr Tahiti to do the honours but I couldn't find him lol
