On the subject of descriptions, are the web sites/travel brochures accurate? It would be such a nightmare if I travelled all that way and it turned out to be a rat infested hovel lol.

Just come here and ask about any place you're interested in and if one of us knows (either from having been there or talking to fellow travellers there), we'll let you know. And do be prepared for the odd bug since it's the tropics (I don't mean an infestation, but you might have a bug in your room and almost certainly will have a gecko or two).

I can't think of any rat infested hovel in Huahine.

I agree with Old Wife, ask away and people will answer.

Huahine is very clean, lush and like stepping back in time 50 years. Very laid back.

I think some of the websites might look a bit nicer than they are, though. When we were in Huahine, we spent some time with a young couple from France who'd booked at a smaller place (I can't remember the name offhand, but if I saw the site I'd know it). They were very disappointed with it, especially with the cold showers. We dropped them off first on our 4x4 tour and I thought the place looked crowded and run-down.

I hope you can think of it. I'm wondering that that is.

What I know is it's within walking distance of Fare, but much farther than Rande's Shack (past Rande's Shack, away from Fare). We first met the wife on Rande's beach as she was walking back from Fare and she stopped to ask us the time. So that will give you an idea of direction/distance. There were a number of bungalows (I didn't pay attention, but we saw several). They were all in a row and looked very basic (they reminded me of horse stalls, LOL). I seem to recall some cheap plastic chairs. The couple commented that they hadn't known there wouldn't be hot water when they booked (mind you, websites have changed since then so that won't help in my search). Not much else really sticks in my mind, I'm afraid. It was definitely a place I hadn't heard of before when I was researching or else that would have clicked with me. And I'm pretty sure (pretty well positive) it was a Tahitian word, not French.

Hm. There is a camping place, but I have only driven to it. I don't want to say the name in case I am wrong.

They have some little places to stay, but I don't recall all of the bungalows in a row.

There are some places that I have not seen there such as Fermi (sp?), ,for example. We just never drove down some of those driveways to look at them.

I know. I'm afraid to guess at a place in case I name the wrong one, too (I looked online and showed hubby photos and we're just not sure since it's been a couple of years). I guess one thing Kelo could do is email any place he's going to book to make sure it has what he wants (e.g. if hot water is important, then ask if they have that). I know it isn't La Petite Ferme because I used to train horses and seriously considered staying there (so I would have definitely remembered that place). This was a place I hadn't heard of before.
