Thank you folks! I've been perusing hundreds of pics from years back and it all looks like it's the place where I want to be. I think a basic knowledge of the language would be useful - and, yes, holte, we (Europeans) do tend to speak more languages than most people do possibly due to our relative closeness to each other. So far I have four languages under my belt. I'm not fluent in them all but enough to hold a reasonable chat and be clearly understood. You'll develop your language skills, holte, just keep at it. That '101 Languages of the World' is an excellent way to learn. It has program that shows you the acoustics of what's being said and you repeat the word - there is a indicator telling you if your pronunciation is good, bad or 'keep practising' lol.

If you speak French, you will have no issues at all in FP. In fact, most Tahitians speak French better than their native language.

Definitely agree with Holte, FP is not what you would call "crowded". A friend of ours, whilst browsing our holiday pics, asked us did we wait until everyone had gone/moved out of the way to take the photos!!!
