Using the same flights, you'd think they could offer to Depart on 9, 10, 11 and return on June 22
(I guess thatshould be written in the past tense)

Oh please! A majority??? Maybe the 7 days, yes....but 4, 5, or 6??? I don't think so!
I think it is very likely that a good percentage of people stay for 7 nights. That is a typical vacation for many. BUT...this sale isn't even for 7 nights!!! It's only for 4, 5, or 6 nights! PLUS...you have to spend one of those nights in Tahiti.
I agree the largest percentage of people do not buy a package for 10 days or more....at least not Americans. BUT...if they're going to have a short stay sale, then at least make it for 8-10 days. At least THAT would cover the majority of vacationers.
I would love to see those statistics. They obviously have the numbers, because we all fill out those tourist cards when we visit....regarding the length of our stay. I would love to see what those numbers actually show. I would bet my life they don't show a majority of people staying LESS than 7 nights!!!

Patti,
I once found online a very extensive marketing report done for Tahiti Tourisme (and unfortunately, can't find it again now). It calculated all those tourist card results as well as info from hotels and airlines, and concluded that, although 45% of tourists were honeymooners/first time visitors, the remaining 55% were repeat visitors/retired folks/cruise passengers.
Now we all know that repeat visitors as well as cruise passengers stay for more than 6 nights! It doesn't take a rocket scientist...
Everyone should get on Facebook and leave a comment about wishing this was for a longer stay, and that 6 days max is TOO restrictive! Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Air-Tahiti-Nui-USA/111873023565
There are 25 comments right now (Sat a.m.)to their explanation of the 6 day limit -- let's DOUBLE or TRIPLE it! Protest, guys!

Patti, To make it even worse, ATN's FB page is referring people to easytahiti for accomodations. We know they are getting TERRIBLE comments on Trip Advisor! Stay away... use Yves on this website if you book this fare and need accomodations!

I understand they are trying to fill seats on some upcoming flights that have an excess of seats on certain flights. BUT...why not just offer to leave on a Wed-Thurs-Fri...and then return on a Tues. That way, people can make it as long or short as they want. It fills the seats on the slow days and people get to choose how long they want to stay.

I just found some statistics from the Instit de la Statistiques de la Polynesie Francaise that indicate the average stay in FP for North Americans is between 10 and 11 days. http://www.ispf.pf/ISPF/EnqRep/EnquTour/EFT/EFTStat.aspx

I am just getting so annoyed with ATN...their comments on Facebook about "the average stay" etc., jeeezzz. With the tourism way down, WHY do they keep insisting on those short stays??

Barbi~ the thing is....they will sell a lot of the seats with this sale. Yes, they could very likely sell more with a longer stay sale. BUT...they will get people to bite. They always do. And as long as they always get enough people to bite at these short stay sales, they'll just keep doing them.
