If these tours (lagoon or land) are sometimes 4 hours or so long - where do you go to the bathroom?? I'm imagining being on a lagoon tour on Bora Bora and cruising around, snorkeling, eating lunch on a motu... do they have like porta potties or permanent bathrooms on the motus? Do they have bathrooms on the boats? Or do you just go in the lagoon like the fishes do?? I am a girl that has to go like every hour it seems. I tried a brief search but I have never seen anyone post this question before!

LOL, I know, funny question :) What if it's a #2? I mean, these things happen... Dig a hole and hide behind a bush? Maybe I just won't eat that morning...

Don't eat the day before LOL... you could do that on the motu, plenty of spots to pick, just watch out the tupa's (landcrabs') won't bite you while doing your #2 LMAO

So I guess this brings up another question - are there public restrooms in FP? If we have our rental car on say, Moorea, and are touring around, would we find a place to go to the bathroom on a public beach, or in a shopping center? Is it ok to ask store owners/employees if you can use their restroom?

This truly is one of the funnier questions I've seen....although it is a good question.
On a motu picnic trip on Moorea a few years ago, one of the ladies on the boat had to pee on the way back. So Bruno stopped the boat in the middle of the lagoon, dropped the ladder off the front of the boat, she went in, peed , got back on and we were on our way. Everyone got a good laugh out of it. But...when you gotta go, you gotta go!
Anyway...I know on the Motu Picnic on Moorea there is a little outhouse to use on the motu. I would imagine Bora would have the same.
I have never looked for restrooms around the islands, as I have never had to go while out (other than at a restaurant)...but I'm sure you could ask at a store.

Hmmmmm I've done that between Taha'a and BB OMFG was just waiting for jaws to come by bite off my b*** while being dragged behind the boat, would NOT recommend that to anyone especially out on the ocean waters.... LOL
On BB depends which motu but mostly no restroom facilities. When doing an island tour by car the cleanest toilets would be the ones at the hotels/resorts... plenty of them on Moorea where you could stop wander in and do whatever you have to do LOL
ps do take toilet paper with you though just in case...

Years ago (1998) we went on a motu picnic on Bora Bora. My sister was having some tummy troubles, and had to go dig a hole on the motu. Our guides were joking she had to "go make a phone call". There was a rather large pig wandering the motu, and ever since then we have a joke about "calling the pig".
I would heed Poehere's advice and keep some TP with you. I've never had trouble finding a restroom to use on Moorea, but no TP was common, and last time (2006), there seemed to be a lot of missing toilet seats...

No need to drag a roll of TP around with you; just have a pocket pack of tissues handy!
Reminds me of the old joke: There are two kinds of divers; those who pee in their wet suits and those who say they don't but lie about it! :-)
Seriously, there are plenty of restrooms available around Moorea (land-side), at various resorts, resaurants, shopping areas. Just ask your excursion driver to stop somewhere if you need to go while on a tour. Out on the sea, do what the fishes do!
