This will come out as it is in the printed press and other local news...

Air Moorea is going to drastically minimise it's activities due to enormous financial losses (especially with less residents taking the plane after the 2007 crash)

For the long term it will be decided if AM will be "swallowed up" by the mother company Air Tahiti or otherwise... the company will announce more details by the end of July.

At least the ferry still exists.

Row row row the boat... In any case I think the crossing per ferry is so much nicer and relaxing, they should have a dock at the airport taking people right over to Moorea iso having to go into town.

During one of the strikes when they blocked the port of Papeete, one of the ferries left by The Tupuna pass, which is like 8 km south of Papeete on the West side to cross over to Moorea. So if they're able to do that they could stop at the airport too and it is cool to take the ferry along the lagoon!

That would be a great idea! Our first trip to Moorea, I booked the ferry over (even though we'd paid for an airpass and could have flown for free). Hubby and I still talk about how exciting it was to watch the island get bigger and bigger and to pull into the bay. Flying there is fun, too (and exciting!), but I'm really glad we saw it for the first time by boat (or is that ship--one of my friends keeps correcting me on that and I tell her I grew up on the Great Lakes and everything I travelled on there seemed to be a boat).

The ferry has cut back its schedule as well, even during high season. For example, there is only one ferry a day now, at 9:15 a.m., from Tahiti to Moorea, according to my local friends.

And I'm having a terrible time with both AT and AM getting various reservations during our stay here. The schedule is very sparse, and lots of flights are already full.

Hm...

The travel agency here in Norway that I use, has put me on the Arimiti ferry at 07:35 on the 16th of august...

Can I expect this to run as planned ?

Morty, The ferries are fine; just make sure your TA is using the current schedule.

Tom, So far it's only Air Moorea that's affected, and our tickets to the Cooks are on Air Tahiti.

Sorry, I had tried to edit my post above, but guess it didn't work on this S L O W WiFi connection on Moorea!

It SHOULD have said that THIS SUNDAY there is apparently only one ferry from Tahiti to Moorea, at 9:15 a.m., according to my local friends. (This may be because other ferries are being used for eclipse tours; I don't know!)

Thanx Barbi as always :-)

I'm going to the Cooks too, using Air Tahiti. That is a long flight on an ATR72 propel plane i think... 2 hours 40 minutes
