Ok, so I am wanting to get married in FP (Bora Bora or Moorea). I have researched a little and it seems as thought the only type of wedding you can have is the traditional Tahitian type. Does anyone know if you can just have a traditional American exchange of vows? Just going to be my fiance and me. Also, this will be my second time in FP. I went back in '06 and stayed in the Intercontinental in Moorea and BB. It was just beautiful, loved the hotel and it's location. The water was beautiful in BB in the overwater room. Is there any other hotels in a prettier part of the lagoon? I don't remember there being any other one at the time that was in a better part of the lagoon. thanks, Kerri

Kerri, It is now possible for Americans to have a legal wedding ceremony in FP, though many couples still do the ceremonial wedding without official papers and then get married at home in a legal ceremony.
I would suggest emailing the IC on Moorea or BB (whichever you want to hold the ceremony at) and inquiring about the details, which involve filling our some forms at the city hall.

Thanks Barbi, does the IC still have the best OW bungalows in Bora Bora/Moorea? Kerri

Kerri, it's a matter of opinion. I personally like the ICs! Others will have their own favorites...

I talked to one of the agents from here yesterday. He said there is a lot of red tape in getting the marriage to be legal there. I was really wanting a legal ceremony there as I don't want all of the hoopla that is involved in getting married at home and having to involve family. Too much planning and too many people get involved. I need to talk with him more tomorrow to see just how difficult it is. Kerri

Kerri-how about a simple thing at a courthouse? You, hubby and witness?
Then have your dream in FP?

Yes, we both thought about that but want something more memorable than a courthouse. We are going to FP no matter what ... just wanted to have a legal marriage there. :-( Kerri

I would suggest you use a Tahiti based TA that knows the new laws in French Polynesia and their requirements. A TA based in Tahiti also would speak French and know what documents you would need to get married.

Yep, the agent is one from this website and is French. I will have to get him to confirm what I thought he said to me yesterday. Kerri
