2 LeTrucks on Moorea operate to pick up and deliver folks home. They go in different directions from the ferry dock. Le Trucks on Moorea work in tandem with the ferry not a regular service around the island.

Departing from Vaiare (ferry docks) and Haapiti le Petit Village, 300 cfp pax one way, luggage is a little extra. The trucks run on the fast ferry schedules only (thus not on the slow ferries). When taking le truc from the ferry dock you'll have 2, one going via South to Haapiti (West coast, le Petit Village) and one going via North, Maharepa, Pao Pao etc until le Petit Village which is end destination.
When leaving from le Petit Village in Haapiti to Vaiare, count appr. 1,5 hrs before fast ferry dep time to fix the bus' dep time...

It is very difficult to get places other than the ferry (and then only to meet the schedule) on le truck. However, there are several transport services here who will take you anywhere on the island for 700f per person each way, much cheaper than the taxis.

Barbi JKM, I still have to figure out how 700f converts to the American dollar, but I was interested in an alternative (to the taxi or rental car) transport service on Moorea. Reliability, cost, ease of use. Thank you for any advice you have! Melinda

melinda, try this link for currency conversion.
http://www.xe.com/ucc/
700.00 XPF = 7.43691 USD
As far as transport, try
http://www.toreanui.com/.
They have a booth at the moorea airport and respond to inqueries on the website. I've used them and they are very reliable.

melinda, lop off the last 2 digits (the 00) from the XPF and you get a rough idea of the US dollar value. Denver Joe's posted the current rate so you'll see you have to add a bit extra, but it's a good rough guide just to get rid of those last 2 digits when you're trying to guess the cost of something.
