I am really frustrated with the price and the schedule of the flights to Tahiti. We would like to go three weeks to Moorea but we do not want to stay in Papeete. Air France leaves at 7:30 AM. making it imposible to take the plane from Moorea to Papeete.
I wonder how much Tahiti wants tourists to visit their islands...

I know what you mean. We took Air France in December and arrive in the early AM to FP. We like to stay as late as possible, so we had to stay overnight in Tahiti to get the early morning flight out of FP.

It's not that bad to stay overnight in Papeete for one night, I feel.

I liked it when they had the flights that left late at night. They don't have those anymore?

As much as it makes for inconvenient arrival and departure times in Tahiti....you have to look outside the box if they were different. If the flights departed Tahiti in the afternoon it would mess up arrival times in the US....you'd likely have to spend a night at LAX because you couldn't get a flight back to VA that late...AND....the people flying all the way back to Paris would be landing at weird hours. Plus...flights are not allowed to take off and land at LAX during the very late night/early morning hours. There really are a lot of factors that go into the scheduling.

Staying one night in Papeete is really not that bad. Fare Suisse is very nice, very reasonable, and provides free transport to and from the airport/ferry dock.

As for the prices....ain't a dang thing you can do about that. They're expensive...and when they do have sales, they are usually for short stays only.

I priced one flight from Aberdeen here in Scotland through CDG, Paris - 26 hours outbound.......SIXTY ONE hours inbound!!! I'd be staying with relatives in LA on the return!

The price wasn't bad either, £1,350 return.

a mere 61 hours?

We had to stay in Papeete and LA on the way back last December.

Because the way the flights were scheduled, we could not get a flight from LAX to Minneapolis.

This is not the way it used to be. We could leave Papeete at 10:30 PM and arrive back home the next night.

On our first trip, we left Bora Bora at 5 p.m. on Friday and arrived in Toronto around 6 a.m. Sunday morning. We had to get our luggage, go through customs, get picked up by my father-in-law, go to their house for a visit & then drove home. Hubby hadn't had any sleep at all in 2 nights (both nights we were on planes). And I'd had that fall that required stitches and heavy-duty antibiotics. I'm surprised we got home in one piece!

Totally! I think the travelling is like childbirth. You tend to forget how bad it is when you want another (baby/trip)! Actually, our second trip was much better (24 hours door-to-hotel going there and maybe 28 coming back).
