Absolutely. It did make a difference on the Memorial Day sale.
Did you see that nice post after my last one?

I went to the ATN website to see if I could email them the question about why the Paris sale is for 30 days and why the NZ to PPT sale is for 60 days and yet the LAX to PPT sales are always 4 or 5 days or a max 10 days at the very most...BUT...they don't even have an email for North America available on their website. Isn't that interesting? There is an email address for most other areas...but not for us.

OW, go to the ATN home page and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click 'contact us' and the emails for different countries are listed. If you click on Canada's email, it doesn't give you an address just a page to make an inquiry. Sort of an internal mail system.

ATN has a lot of guts. They sent me an email to play their 'win a trip to Paris game' on Facebook, and I can't even enter as I'm banned from the site. Go figure.

LOL! AND...there's probably no way to contact them to tell them.
I'm seriously tempted to open another facebook account under a different name...just so I can harass them on their next sale. I'm not a mean person by nature...but boy it felt good to challange them!

In May of 2009 I had this email exchange with Tahiti Tourisme:
Good afternoon, I was just planning on writing on my travel blog that this year I was going to the Cook Islands instead of Tahiti. I feel that Tahiti does not want me as a visitor anymore. Air Tahiti Nui was just running a 50% off special (which still amounts to more money than it would cost me to fly to the Cooks) that was valid for only a 10 day stay in Tahiti. Most Americans get at least two weeks vacation. With the weekends one can stretch those two weeks to 12, 14, or 16 days. But Tahiti is saying you can only have 10 days of vacation. It's a beautiful place. I suppose I would pay more to go there but I can't pay $1.400 when the flights to the Cooks are $800 and I WON'T limit my vacation to only 10 days. I also must note that the airfare specials orginating in New Zealand on Air Tahiti Nui are valid for stays of 45 days to one year so are you not saying Americans aren't welcome? Sincerely,
The reply I was: Ia Orana,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We are indeed distressed that we have lost you as a visitor this year and will certainly share your sentiments with our airline partner, Air Tahiti Nui. Although we understand your perceptions, we would really like to take this opportunity to let you know that Tahiti DOES want you as a visitor! We hope that for your next vacation we can persuade you will return to us and that you will be pleased to do so.
Warmest Regards,
Jeanine Cater Director of Marketing Tahiti Tourisme North America
I wrote back:
Ia Orana Jeanine, Thank you for your response. I would love to return to Tahiti. It saddens me that I have to go somewhere else. There are threads on the Tripadvisor Tahiti forum and the Tahiti Explorer forum where other potential return visitors have expressed their dismay with Air Tahiti Nui's policies. I just saw ATN's latest special. It's for a stay of maximum four days. Four days! Please explain it to me. Am I supposed to go to Tahiti for four days and then come back to spend the rest of my vacation in North Hollywood where I live? Why? Do you realise how angry and insulted I feel when I see something like that? She did not respond.

They just don't care. I can't say they don't get it....I think they do...it's just they don't care....they want (and expect) us to pay full price. Afterall, they are going after the millionaires! Those are the words that came right out of their mouths!!!
I made my point AGAIN on Trip Advisor when an ATN rep(probably the same one who handles their Facebook page) came in and posted on a thread we had about ATN's sales. I pointed out that it makes no sense to limit a stay...as long as the arrival and departure dates fit within the sale period...what difference does it make? ESPECIALLY in the low season!!! There will be the same amount of butts in the seats regardless if they stay for 10 days or 30. It's not like they will get more people going if they only offer shorter stays. And people will spend a lot more money in the local economy in 15 or 30 days than they will in 4 or 10.
But it's like talking to a brick wall. They just don't care.

They just don't "get" it. The logic of their explanation for the 4-day sale, that North Americans like to take long weekends, just doesn't apply to French Polynesia visitors. Comparing it to a 4-hour drive to Vegas: does that cost you $2000 for two people to get there? What about 4-5 days in Hawaii on the current $350 round-trip sales? Just not comparable!
On the prior promotion over Memorial Day weekend ("Midnight Madness Sale"), I provided them with a link to the last comprehensive study of their own tourists, which concluded that 55% of all visitors are repeat, cruise, or retired visitors who stay a MINIMUM of 11-13 days. It was ignored. The most recently published statistics by the government indicates that North Americans stay an average of 11.4 days (at the resorts) and an average of 26 days (at the pensions). http://www.tahiti-tourisme.com/Partners/ArrivalStats/2010/e%292010_May_Arrival_Stats.pdf
WHY are they not looking at their OWN historical statistics of their visitors? (Remember those little green cards we always fill out on arrival and trade in for a tiare flower just before the immigration line?) They are not listening to the voices of their own visitors, provided by their own governmental statistical research, and instead are looking at the "vacationing trends" of North Americans (including Vegas, Disneyland, Hawaii, all of which are IRRELEVANT)!
I'm FIU!
