Jeanine, welcome to the forum. Hope you can get the people at ATN to listen. We all want to come back to Tahiti, just not for 4 or 5 days max.

Please answer us as to why Americans - the largest segment of tourists to French Polynesia are not being welcomed? Why are residents of New Zealand being offered air fare specials of stays of 45 and 60 days and we get 4 and 10 days?
I devoted my time and efforts to a Tahiti travel blog - http://tahitionabudget.blogspot.com You can see how my tone has gotten angrier over the years and in my last post I'm telling folks to go to the Cooks.
Air Tahiti Nui was able to delete dissenting opinion from their facebook page so now it has moved to Tripadvisor and here. Me, I'm going to dig out my Tripadvisor log in and post there since there are many more visitors.
As I wrote in my email to you, last year I went to the Cooks and New Zealand for three weeks total. This year, once again, I will go elsewhere.

Obviously, we who post on here a lot love Polynesia. We want people to travel there.

Since we are travelers to the islands or are people who live there as well, we would really like ATN to encourage people to go to Polynesia .

It does not bode well when those who love it, are getting upset.

We spend money there and that should be looked at in terms of the length of stay. The longer the stay, the more money spent. It's of benefit to everyone.

Right now ATN has a special from Aukland. The following is from the ATN NZ web page.

Fly Auckland to Tahiti in Economy Class from $987 return. COST INCLUDES $85 for various Government Levies & Taxes for Security & Border Controls. Costs are subject to currency fluctuations, and were correct as of 01 September 2010.

Economy Class fare from Auckland to Tahiti
Valid for maximum stay of 1 year.

And the price is in NZ dollars. Which is 987.00 NZD = 716.060 USD.

And we get 4 or 5 days? ??? ATN needs to get a clue.

Again, I have no real issue with the regular price of the flight (although it is high). Or even the difference in price between PPT/Aukland and PPT/LAX. I understand ATN (like any business) needs to make flights as profitable as possible.

It is the length of stay requirements for the sale prices that are most upsetting to me. If ATN is going to offer a sale price because of an abundance of seats...especially in the low season....then make it for a reasonable length of stay period and more people will likely take advantage of the sale.

4-5 days is simply ridiculous for an 8 hour flight...especially when you very likely have to spend on of those nights in PPT. And 7 is not a lot better, for the same reason. 10 is okay, but it pretty much elimanates the possibility of visiting 2 or 3 islands. Air Frances sales from LAX/PPT seem to be for 14 days...they are ATN's main competition...would it not make sense to try to match or exceed their sales rather than lose customers to them?

I agree Patti. It's not the price, it's the length of stay. NZ'rs can stay for a year, why can't we stay 2 or 3 weeks?

Given that the new Tahitian laws now allow Americans and Canadians to stay up to 90 days in a six month periods without the hassle of having to obtain a short-stay visa from the French Consulate, I would think this would encourage visitors to stay for longer period of time in FP. I don't think this factor has been taken into consideration by ATN when formulating its promotions with their short-stay limitations.

In a weak economy, if a couple has to invest $2,000 to simply arrive at a destination, one would logically assume they would want to see as much as possible of that location, and 4-7 days does not allow enough time for a reasonable visit to Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora, which is the most popular itinerary for most first time visitors and honeymooners.

This is not a "long weekend" destination!

I asked ATN the following because we're not being targeted either!

"Can ATN tell me what they are doing to attract people form the UK and Europe? :)"
