that's a great site with good pictures. The beach does not look that good though. The houses look nicely done.

I agree, holte. Nice bungalows, but that beach (if you can call it that!). I think the photos were taken when the tide was out to make it look at its worst, but still. There are many nice beaches on Huahine. I'm surprised anyone would build on that one.

It looks like the Pension Tupuna was built and is maintained by a lot of love.
They probably built there because it is their land and they tried to make the best out of it.
I had to laugh at "The grounds are polluted with crabs." Surprised they didn't mention that the lagoon is contaminated with fish.
But interesting site, thanks for posting OP, going to do some further reading.

The crab line got me too lol. They seem to have travel knowledge but they obviously didn't like living 'in the bush'. Still, interesting to read the review and see the pics.

there are crabs all over FP. They are not bothersome at all.
If you are looking to swim and snorkel, there are bettor locations on Huahine.

Mind you, the island isn't so big that you can't go to a different place every day and still see plenty of crabs lol.

I laughed at the "polluted with crabs" line, too. There are so many crabs in FP (we saw tons in the Society Islands, but not on Fakarava, though we were told they were there). The humidity can be a problem if there isn't much of a breeze (the breeze also really cools you so much that you sometimes don't notice how hot it is). Still, the location leaves a lot to be desired and I think Silvanocat is right--it's their land so they built on it, hoping to draw tourists.

I agree, however, according to The Lonely Planet guide people rave about the place so perhaps it depends on the perceptions of the guest. Still wont stop me from trying there :)

You never know, Kelo. And maybe the photos were taken at an unusual time (right after a heavy rain areas near rivers often get muddy-looking but can be beautiful at other times). We've stayed at places we've loved yet others have insulted because of weather or some other situation that's out of the host's control.
